During the Christmas season of 1970 my future husband took me downtown to Philadelphia to see this before we were married in February. He has been gone 10 years now and it is as special today as it was back then. For many reasons, it is my all time favorite. May God bless all of you and yours and give you a very happy and blessed Christmas.

Without a doubt, the best version of Scrooge there ever was, or ever will be. The depth of feeling expressed by Albert Finney is unmatched by any other version!

The last 20 minutes of this film have me in literal tears of joy every single time I watch it. No version of A Christmas Carol will ever top this one.

I saw this in Radio City Music Hall in 1970 as 9yr old boy. It had a profound effect on me as it still does today.. RIP Albert Finney

I've watched so many of the Christmas Carol films over the years and there's been some wonderful performances. Dickens's Scrooge is not an easy character to perform, because you've got to be both convincing as the old miser and then the character reborn again at the end of the story.
How Finney never won an Oscar for his performance here is quite unbelievable. I would say to any up and coming actor watch Finney's performance in this adaption and you will see all the nuances required to be a great actor. He was 34 when he portrayed Ebenezer here and he is totally convincing as the old miser. The gate when he walks, the wizened look, down to the dirty finger nails and calluses on his fingers. The classic lines from the book are delivered perfectly, he knows when to snap the lines out and when to leave silence before they're delivered. Sometimes, just the look he gives shows the utter contempt he has for mankind.
You'd swear he was an old man and I've watched this film so many times over the years and still struggle to see the Scrooge he portrays when he's taken back by the ghost of Christmas past as the same person. An incredible performance.

This is my favorite movie of all time. The music, the acting, the message, the imagery. The characters are so full of life. I loved this as a child. Today, I can see this story is incredibly close to what we know as the "life review" of a "near death experience". I think that is why the story resonates with so many people and has been the enduring classic that it is.

This was the first time I remember watching this version. I loved it. My favorite part is at the end when the town and Scrooge are walking and singing "Thank You Very Much" and he says Merry Christmas to the crowd at the end who are cheering and tossing their hats. Loved it.

I have seen several different "A Christmas Carol" and Scrooges in my lifetime, and this one remains my favorite because of the lovely soundtrack by Leslie Bricusse, may he RIP, along with the fantastic Albert Finney. Thanks for the upload. I've just enjoyed my Christmas Eve all the more.
