I personally don't think the message is necessarily romantic, as some have derived. Instead, I think it would be funny if it was phrased that way to purposefully bait the players, only for the usual Berdly shenanigans to take place and sweep the rug out from under us...


By revealing this is just how Berdly usually asks Kris (and/or Noelle) to play Minecrap with him, because he sucks at the game and needs someone to carry him (aka be the "breeze under his wings" because he'd never admit to sucking at anything)

I definitely think he’s talking to Kris, but my mind immediately jumps to what implications this could have for the weird route. Would be interesting if berdly being around or not ends up dramatically changing what we do during the festival

i think berdly is asking kris to the festival because noelle is taking susie already, and wants some alone time with her :3
and since berdly doesnt wanna go alone, he decided to ask his next best bet to go with him

i dont think theyre ACTUALLY going on a date but oh, what i wouldnt do for krerdly date OR AT LEAST a sick hangout sesh. these two need to interact more, 1 on 1, and talk about something that isnt girls or grades. let them chill out!
(id imagine if someone did tje weird route, kris would just attend the festival alone? i dont think many people are thinking about that in context of this dialogue)

So I've considered something on this a while ago. It's more a 'vibe' than a 'theory'

It's sort of a cliche in a lot of RPGs to have a Romance Subsystem. Not in the sense of dating sim elements as in Persona, but like how in Final Fantasy 7 and Tales of Symphonia the game will secretly track your relationship with several characters and alter a few scenes depending on your dialogue choices and the like

In Deltarune, we have had a peculiar amount of... Well, romance teases. Kris and Ralsei have the acid tunnel of love and the hugging and the like - Though reading between the lines implies that Kris doesn't see Ralsei that way even if you do. Kris and Noelle is of course the center of the Weird Route, but less distressingly they do have a Childhood Friend thing if you want to look at it that way. Kris and Susie has the least attention in terms of romantic scenes, but Kris seems to prefer Susie when you look a little deeper...

Then you have Berdly. You can give him the Berdly plush and it actually makes him say something something insignificantly different later on, iirc. When you talk to him on the ground after the Queen fight he seems to imply he thinks you are interested in him. And he hounds you about the 'family debt, ' and starting in Chapter 2 you can weirdly start to actually collect money.

...Most of these RPG romance subsystems has one really weird choice that you have to get through a lot of unusual circumstances and obtuse play, and it tends to reward you with a much more awkward scene usually involving a male character ill-suited to the main character. For example, you can famously go on a really awkward and funny date with Barret at the casino area in Final Fantasy 7.

So what if this Berdly line is like that? If you do the exact right things - give him the plushie, make sure his arm isn't broken, etc - maybe you can take him to the festival and ruin Kris' romantic life. Were I in Toby's shoes, and had a big romantic festival coming up, I would also want to put a Barret Date in it

I feel like it has to be kris. besides just initial impressions, any further investigation just makes it sound like how berdly talks to kris. very condescending but with the slight hint berdly actually does like them.

if this isnt throwaway dialogue I wonder if it could actually lead to berdly aroace realization sideplot yknow as commentary for... *scrambles to a reason that isnt "im aroace and it would be cool"* the nature of fandom shipping and uhh characters free will and freedom or something
