Dave’s brother Steve was my coach in high school. In San Jose at Willow Glen high. 1997 my senior year, Steve got Dave to come out and give me tips during a bullpen session the day before my first start senior year. He gave me some subtle gently tips and helped so much. One was he told me to drag my right foot as I threw my split change (same pitch which he helped Tim Lincecum perfect years later as SF Giants pitching coach). I asked Dave to come to the game to watch. He did with his family. I threw a no hitter with 1 out left in the final inning. Gave up a bunt hit. Ended up winning league MVP that year and winning 10 games and losing 1.
