In fact, in one of the cutscenes in KH1, Goofy straight up calls Sora "The Hero chosen by the Keyblade." I think it's in Olympus Coliseum.

BBS Trio Mark of Mastery: hit an energy ball

Riku and Sora Mark of Mastery: elaborate dream adventure into a parallel plane that exists just as tangibly as the prime plane and also has the danger of reviving the most powerful villain they’ve had in the past 12 years

Another thought; outside of a select few people who would know of Keyblade Masters ie the almost monastic side of using the Keyblade: Michael Yen Sid, Ansem SoD, possibly Xemnas, another big possibly Triton, and such, to an average Joe it would be safe to assume the kid running around with the mythic weapon of the Keyblade and showing proficiency fighting Heartless with it would be the Master of the Keyblade

He was only called a master erroneously by people who wouldn't have as much knowledge about the actual process of becoming a master

That's a shame, cause there was a specific neat interaction between Vexen and Sora, where Vexen stated that Sora was not worthy of being a Keyblade Master. In my head at the time it was an interesting line of text

Yup! KBladeHero is actually Sora's username in Re:Coded too in the Avatar Menu, it's just a translation that gets flopped around kind of like how Treasure Magnet is called "Draw" in Kh2 or Once More and Withstand Combo.

Think of it like this:
We're told by people that barely know shit about Keyblades that Sora is the only keyblade user. Of course they think he's a master.

I just assumed half of them didn’t know the difference, and the others forgot since it had been so long since it was mentioned.

I assumed it was because the keyblade was only able to be wield by sora. Thus making him the master of the keyblade. Ergo, keyblade master.

Hey thats neat as the actual name might be referenced in the Big Hero 6 world

Sora had done so many things that I find it odd that he isn’t labeled a master yet

I always considered sora was called that and rikku also mentioned that line as a mistake of lack of knowledge about the actual facts of the keybearers.

Take forninstance King Triton refers to the keybearer as someone who brings chaos, likely due to terra in the other worlds, and then means even King Triton had no knowledge of the actual role of keyblademasters

The real retcon was when Yensid was like, "The mark of mastery is whatever the hell I want it to be! Go do adventure!!!"

That might explain the "keyblade hero 3" thing from San Fransokyo later down the line. Double meaning!

I mean my two braincells kinda put together that he was just a hero I mean Mount Olympus told he was dozens of times and I'm pretty sure they meant he'd be nothing without that keyblade at times.. though he proved he didn't really need it at times

Well thanks for the explanation. I honestly just assumed people just didn't know how this works and that's why they called him that, specially since a lot people at the start who seemed to know something about keyblades tended to give the impression that there was only one keyblade, which at the very least Sora seemed to think was the case until he saw someone else with one.
Translation errors can be so funny am I right?

Other than most characters before Kh3 didn't know that much about the Keyblade. Donald and Goofy only know from their King and his master who both Keyblade master. Riku and Sora didnt learn if mark of mastery until DDD. And the organization, they only one Keyblade welder and Xemnas didn't tell the correct term to use.

I always understood it as he was the Keyblade*’s* Master, in the sense that someone with a dog is the Dog’s Master
