On April 10, 1945, while escorting a massive bombing raid towards Berlin, Lt. Joseph Peterburs of the 55th Fighter Wing, 20th Fighter Group encountered a Messerschmitt Me 262. The enemy attacked the bomber formation and shot down four aircraft before Joe, from his altitude advantage, pounced on the unsuspecting jet fighter. After a short engagement the Schwalbe limped away into cloud cover, blazing from the wing and engine, where its pilot - the famed German flying ace Walther Schuck, - was forced to bail.
We commemorate that deed by introducing the North American P-51D Josephine - named after Joe Peterburs' fiancée - to World of Warplanes. Its fiery personality can definitely bring its pilots to many feats of glory!
