I was 18 when this song came out, it's Mar 23, 2024 and I am still listening!

You may think you're cool, but you'll never be Bo Wagner rocking a sparkly black spandex jumpsuit, banging out the most incendiary marimba solo ever recorded on The Midnight Special in 1976!

I was going to school at Ole Miss when the song came out so it is one of those songs you remember exactly where you were and what you were doing when it was popular. Now every time I hear the song it takes me back to cruising around the campus in the spring with the windows down. Hard to believe it has been almost 50 years.

Anyone who was a teenager in the late 60s-70s - we had the best music. And so much! Pop, "classic rock", jazz, psychedelic. Whatever we had it, all shiny and new, wrapped up like a present. AM radio, FM radio - no wonder we spent so much time cruising around town. You could play your radio as loud as you wanted. And sing along. Gas was under a dollar a gallon. I can remember everybody emptying the change out of their pockets to buy gas. Back in the days when we went out. Out of the house, to a park or the woods. Go exploring or find a place to sit and just hang out. Usually with a couple six packs. A 6 pack of Bud was around $2.
I live in north Jersey and there's so much history - back in the woods you could find all kinds of stuff. An old furnace where they made cannonballs for the Revolutionary War - there's a road in town called Cannonball Road. And riding up Clinton Road to see if the ghost stories were true, scaring the hell out of everybody. All through this we had the music.
One song can bring back so many memories. Life was simpler back then. And NO CELL PHONES! I can't imagine young people hiking up the mountains to find a clean, clear beautiful lake with rocks to dive off. I don't think you can get a signal up there.
Today's young people just don't have any idea how much fun they're missing. I'd go back in a New York minute!

One hit wonder. It is better than the 20 year blunders we have now.

I drove across the Chesapeake Bay SO many time during the 70s on my way to surf in Ocean City, MD… saw plenty of Southern Belles and many great memories from that era!

I believe this song came out in 1976. I was 14 years old then and still love this song. You never outgrow good music. Well done, Starbuck. 👍 👌

I graduated college that year. This song was a glorious celebration of my freedom and hopes for the future. Truly magical. Coming back and reading the comments here after all these decades is bittersweet. But mostly sweet. To know I share these wonderful memories of those very special days with so many others is priceless. We were truly blessed to have been young in the 70's.

I was 15 years old on a school trip to the Tate Gallery in London. . After the Gallery, the coach dropped us off at the Albert Hall for a two hours and a few of us wandered around Kensington Gardens. We had a radio with us and this song came on. Awesome song and everytime I hear it, it takes me back to that afternoon....♥️

I've just played this song a half a dozen times and am transported back to senior year in high school (when the song hit the charts). Oh the memories, the hopes/dreams, the fun times, and the energy. This song sounds so good today. Just hope my neighbors aren't sick of it yet!

I first heard this song I think in 1975 while riding around in my 68 XL Ford Galaxy, fell in love with it immediately!

Great summer night song from the carefree, fun-loving 70s.

I was 10 years old and had no worries when this gem was on the radio. The summer was endless, and I spent my days playing on the grounds of my Big Mama's farmhouse in Virginia. I miss those times and this music.
