On March 15, 1991, The Treaty on the Final Settlement with Respect to Germany became effective, effectively reuniting a German nation that had been divided since the end of World War II into an “East Germany” and a “West Germany,” a product of the suspicion and distrust between the Soviet Union and the Western Allies after the defeat of Germany (and their allies) in 1945.

Great original footage! I remember very well the night the wall fell. We knew we were watching history. It was an incredible moment.

I would love to see a united Ireland, but understand the current reasons and problems with achieving it in any small amount of time.

I was hoping youd actually tell us how germany reunited. The ussr desintegrated and the west wasnt that scared anymore isnt exactly an exhaustive recounting of events.

Lol... did you just rip off ONE wikipedia article?
You clearly did no comparative source ananlysis.
And NO, a Referendum a year before the dissolution of USSR found 76% of Soviets wanted the USSR to continue. It was only the small and insignificant Baltic Soviet Republics that had a majority in favour of independence.
Soviets wanted Economic Reform and some liberalization (secondary). Nationalism and Independence had zero signifigance in the fall of the USSR.
The Belshov Accord* was held in secret for that exact reason, the leaders of the Russian, Belarussian and Ukrainian SFRs KNEW the people would be shocked and against it. So they signed it behind the peoples back and pushed through the political changes to make it irreverible before the people could react. It was a pure power grab by the head of the three most powerful Soviet Republics who had reached the furtherest heights of their careers within the USSR but as heads of new Republics they would have immense power.
You should be ready to do research if you want a History YT channel to grow.
