This is on the Tibetan Plateau and if you didn't know you would swear you were in Tibet. The people, the dress and the monks all scream Tibet. The main reason why many temples are built on mountains is because mountains are quite, distant from residential areas and have good natural environments. These are good for monks to practice. Buddhism does not really talk about Fengshui. Instead, Buddhism teaches you to how to be more compassionate. If you are a kind and compassionate person, the environment you live will be influenced by you and becomes a good Fengshui place. The place you live will changes based on what you do and behave every day.

Buddhist temples are built at remote locations for the purpose of getting away from the buzzy streets and distractions. Buddhist monks need a quiet environment for them to focus on their study and practice of Buddhism. Very similar to finding a quiet corner in the library to study for your exams.

Hey Gweilo - it' true. On the island of Oahu, somehwere not far from Honolulu is a really nice spot in the mountains where there is a Buddhist Temple - it really does feel like it has good vibes.

You are right. Those are chalk, not painted on but just sprinkled on the wall.

For fengshui, it is not just for luck, but more important is for health

Very nice shot, I think it is Labrang Tibet monastery is the largest Tibet monastery out side Tibet A.R. There is a trail circle outside the Monastery's wall they told me the worshipers will walk or protracted clockwise the trail before enter the monastery to pray. I went walking around it, in 2009, it was awesome place to visit.

Gweilo, you have just answered your own question by saying"off the beaten path".Monks and Taoist priests, they need to live in quiet places to practice Buddhism or Taoism. That's why they always build their monasteries on the top of a mountain. They have to be far away from the noisy and crowded world to concentrate on seeking inner peace and awakening.(my English😜)

The monks maintains the tempel regularly. Yes, the color is made of red clays, and then painted on wall.

I also wonder if they have access to water and do they grow their own food etc? Amazing and clean place. Incredible how they were able to build all these places on top of mountains, without modern machinery. I was in Yellow mountain and all materials are still carried up by hand.
