Disbudding Baby Goats - Controversial

-------- Who are we??? ----------
We are a small, 100% family owned and operated farm, located in Salem, CT. Here, you will find our diverse herd of dairy goats play, eat, sleep and cause mischief 24/7/365… You can even watch them give birth LIVE in the main barn aka Cassie’s Castle and watch the babies grow up! Watch the humans, Liz & Aaron, and their 4 children and many friends/visitors, stop in the barn to do chores, love all over the goats, feed treats and just hang out! Things get wacky around here so watch at your own risk and be ready to fall in love, cry & laugh right alongside the family.

---------- Donations and other Community options ----------
Donations Welcome - All donations go directly towards the goat’s hay, grain, vet and toy bill! Did you know that it takes 1 bale of hay per week per goat at about $11 per bale to feed a goat. We have 32 goats.... Every dollar helps. Thank you so much.

A few seconds of pain versus risk of horrible injuries either ripping horn off OR injuring people with their horns... You're doing what needs to be done in everyone's best interest, and you are very skilled.

"& he dies & ur kid finds him" 😂 thats real talk. Essentially keeping it real for those death scrolling doctors out there

Last year was our first year kidding and we left horns. My kids went out one day to play with the babies and a buckling had gotten his head with his horns stuck in a fence and strangled. It was terrible. We are disbudding this year and every year after that experience.

I always felt bad when the kids cry from it but had to do it to them.

I was about to say " STOP YOU'RE HURTING HIM!!!" but then you mad the most fair point I've ever heard but I still do feel bad for him.

You could also just trim the horns every now and then right?

I disbudded a 6 day old LaMancha buckling today, my first time. I'm not confident I got the horn cells completely from re-growing, I may need to re-do it. 😫 I did get the bud caps off. My husband held him while I used the iron, and then held him to cuddle when it was done. The whimpers from that baby as he was cuddled pulled at heartstrings! In the moment, it's soooo difficult to do the task knowing that baby is being hurt intentionally. But, it's far better to have them in a difficult minute than to deal with the consequences of keeping horns.

I think debudding is necessary for the goats protection to themselves...IMO....Thanks Aaron👍❤

Me and my dad did that for years..Started when i was 6.Except we used fire heated irons. Exactly the same with spray bottle..Brings back memories.

No reason for this other than convenience to humans. It’s not that hard to avoid any “horrible injuries” of ripping a horn off or injuries to humans. Even if a human does get injured that’s ok.

While I personally don’t have my goats de budded I do understand why some people will debud their animals

Necessary is supposed to outweigh your "whittle feelings " 😂😅 when people become so weak

My opinion that's animal cruelty. I've raised goats myself but I'll never bring the horns off

I never had any problems with my goats having horns and I had them for years. They ran with my pack of dogs, living peacefully. Never getting the horns caught on the fence or hurting one another.
If you’re going to burn holes in something’s head the least you could do is use a local anesthetic or else be faced with fines/jail time for animal abuse.
If you wouldn’t do it to a human then it shouldn’t be done to an animal!
