I've always regarded this as Mario's most thrilling rendition of the lovely Victor Herbert song.

I first hear Mario Lanza in 1954 singing the "Drinking Song". I have been his fan since. No Tenor has been able to master the high C note so effetely than he. To this day, he hasn't been topped.

Absolutely magnificent. The sound quality is superb, I'd only heard it on a scratchy tape before. Thank you so much for posting

This is the first time I've heard his voice in it's developing stage and I can finally hear the Bel Canto foundation this great tenor's heroic instrument was established on. Here he isn't using that shmaltzy production he would adopt down the road, but simply leans into the lovely lyrical upper range leading the lower that he would master better than any other American. Bravo elemental to transcendental musical miracle.
