How To Shoot Slow Motion With Sony A7Siii | 120fps and S&Q Mode

In this video, I'll be sharing how to shoot slow motion footage with the Sony A7Siii using the 120fps and S&Q Mode. These are the two ways you can capture slow motion that can enhance your story on your video. If you don't have the SONY A7S iii, this method can also work with the SONY A7iii or any SONY cameras that has S&Q Mode, which stands for slow and quick.
I will also be sharing my slow motion settings on the SONY A7Siii and how to use the 120fps and edit in Adobe Premiere Pro. I will also be sharing the settings I use when I shoot slow motion using the S&Q Mode.

Great video. Do you sometimes see the frames more, like janky footage sometimes when you shoot manual? Is S&Q more smooth for any reason? I’ve noticed not very smooth footage on the FX3 and my shutter speed was on 250. Was trying to find out why it was janky. Does anyone have any ideas or advice?

I had a bad experience with my a7s3. The S&Q mode would not stop activating even when I changed it. And an error appeared in the sensor when I put the recording modes. I had to return the camera because they didn't know how to solve the problem. 😔

Thanks for this! I am interested in your final comment, that you don't use S&Q mode because you use speed ramping effects. Couldnt you inverse use that? So have a slomo clip and speed it up? Is it not possible to speed up S&Q footage in post? How do you use speed ramping when you have a 120 fps clip in a 24 fps timeline (so it doesnt slow down at first). Can you just use the keyframes and don't change any settings in your clip and just slow it down using keyframes?

Crucial Question: Why can't you use speed ramps with S&Q? Couldn't you do it, except instead of slowing down, you'd ramp up to x5 for 24p for example?

Hey Marc, I have a question regarding 120 FPS with a 24FPS timeline. I know that I can set the recording timeline to 24fps through S and Q settings. But if I choose to record 120 FPS with audio, does my timeline have to be 30fps? Because I feel like it is choppy when slowed down on a 24 FPS timeline. Or do I have to bring it 20% down?

Hi Marc, great video. I'm having a hard time understanding why there is two different settings and what the purpose of each is for "Movie Settings" versus "S&Q Settings." If I going to be using 120 fps, why do I need to change the Rec Frame rate in both "Movie Settings" and in "S&Q Settings" ? It's either redundant or I'm not understanding something properly..

My next question is what is the purpose of "S&Q Rec Frame Rate" and why do you set it to 24 fps? I know you mentioned that this is the fps you will use in your editing timeline, but why does the camera need to know this?
