The Difficulty of Getting a job as a Software Developer
Показать описание
Was completed in Jan 2023,
just never got around to publishing it.
The first time I opened the footage and listened to it I was shocked by how bad the audio that I had captured had turned out. The problem was with the noise of the fans that are in our cheap lights being captured and creating a constant hum. Thankfully with a bit of audio processing and some EQ adjustments, I was able to get good-sounding audio that seems like it was captured in a silent room with the BGM covering any possible mishaps that could have come up without it.
I had one of my interviews that I captured having its focus off by about an inch or two since the focus was on the neck and not the eye. This was painful to see since I believed that I would have to redo the whole interview again. But once I started messing with some settings and adding a small amount of sharpening to the image, it turned out great. I was able to salvage this bit of focus footage since it was captured in 4k and 4k provides more detail for the sharpening to work with.
Timing and readjusting the audio and b-roll was a mess for me. I struggled with this because the B-Roll that I captured is literally just the same subjects or objects at different angles since what am I supposed to capture that will work with interviewees talking about programming other than their setup with mice, keyboards, books, and monitors. In the end, I tried my best with other footage that I reshot, but it still looks all the same.
My video achieves the goal that I wanted it to achieve when I proposed to create this mini-doc. That goal is to inform other individuals that are interested in becoming software developers or are interested in how difficult the job acquisition process is for software developers. Since the pay of a Senior Developer is very enticing but getting to that point was never easy and as we discovered from the interviews it has only become harder since Covid.
I have provided a great visual that is enjoyable to look at. It might have the issue of being repetitive in the B-Roll but the image that was captured and presented I good content that is pleasing to look at. I enjoyed having the interviewees positioned on opposite sides of each other since it made it very easy to see visually whom we are listening to. Also, it sets the interviewees apart, since interviewee 1 is a student that is still going through the course but already is feeling the changes that have happened and jobs being harder to acquire while interviewee 2 is directly affected since he has still been unable to find a job in the industry that he is pleased with.
Next time that I will be producing a mini-doc or something that is close to this process of filmmaking, I will make sure to double and triple down on my B-Roll. This time I captured B-Roll at two different times and it all turned out to be pretty similar which is great for continuity but not when you want to provide new visuals for the viewers. Having more to work with is always a great choice and is needed to be successful.
I believe my mini-doc final cut that is presented here is a decent work that I have produced. It is not something that I was interested in previously (making documentaries) but I am not interested and want to try something like this again in the future but maybe with a subject that is closer to my hobbies and not something that I can’t really relate to. That way I will have more drive and motivation as well as inspiration on how to make it and how to make such a doc good. Any experience good or bad as it may be is still an experience that will hopefully help me out and make me a better cinematographer in the end.
