I think it has to do with some targeted gap closer. For example, Akali's R, Jax's Q and with the other video on reddit this same thing happened to Irelia. So targeted gap closers are the reason this happens i think....

Still happening. Last night was ulted from purples Red buff almost all the way to my blue buff by tris ult. saved my ass.

Happened to me in a game, the enemy tristana ulted our akali at blue side base and she flew to dragon pit
