probably the biggest reason why Roland are better is that you are its dealer. Don't get me wrong, Roland makes very good digital pianos and is the top four DP brands for good reasons, but those reasons that you cited are far to simplistic. Gone are the days that people have to rely on dealers to give them information as we can find countless comparisons on the net. I don't ever think anyone is completely neutral, even if one has no financial incentive skewing their verdict, people do favour one brand over another, and so all results are skewed to a certain degree.

So claiming that your own product is the best thing since sliced bread come off as rather corny. The FP10 probably gives one of the best actions in its price bracket but as you push up the high range that might not be true and Roland keys action is definitely facing strong competition. The obsession with escapement is a little odd since its one of the most inconsequential things as far as what makes a good action.

as for the sound modeling the verdict is still out there if it is indeed better. I think your explanation is simply incorrect when u said modeling is more authentic and realistic. sampling has the ability to capture so much more nuance in the sound compared to modeling, but the former suffers in terms of the ability to modulate sound. In fact, "things that you wouldn't think about that adds to the sound" is precisely the edge sampling has over modeling. it is simply impossible to factor in all the parameters of an actual acoustic piano sound with modeling at this time, not without crazy processing capability.

If i had to compare, sampling is like a live action shows while modeling is like CGI. the live action footage is much more realistic (duh) and has greater details, but not all that versatile when it comes to changing it like in a game for example. Modeling is like computer graphic, offering you more parameters to work with but with less nuance and details of sampling. do modeling have the potential to be amazing? sure, but we are not there yet so let's not get ahead of ourselves by saying that it is objectively better than sampling at this point in time. even with today's AAA games title, we can still tell a computer game graphic apart from real footage. Am I saying that the video game graphics are bad? Nope. it is just different from live footage the same way a model tone is different from a sampled tone.

at the end of the day, it all depends on what an individual wants from the sound of their instruments. Personally I like Roland's modeling tone and it is definitely not at all a bad tone. but i too enjoy sampled sounds. in fact, there are more than a few instances that i preferred Roland's tone over a sampled tone. i even go as far as to say I wouldn't even compare it as sampling vs modeled, but simply DP A vs DP B, as long as you like the sound of the instrument, it doesn't really matter what the technology behind it is. this is a musical instrument and your ears should be the ultimate judge over all spec on paper.

Great video even in 2023. I reviewed a lot of digital pianos for a beginner and I kept coming back to the FP-10. I bought the Costco bundle about a week ago. Your video confirmed my research but I wish I ran across this video earlier, it would have shorten my research.

Very informative thank you.

However, just a slight clarification re escapement is needed re the escapement, which I hope will be helpful. The escapement is so-called because on an acoustic piano that's the point (when the key has been depressed about 4mm) when the hammer is no longer connected to the rest of the action (the complex mechanism connecting key to hammer) and so flies free with whatever speed has been applied within just that 5 mm or so of key movement - which in turn determines the momentum of the hammer at the point of impact with the string(s) and thus the volume produced. It 's a fundamental part of all acoustic piano actions: uprights as well as grand pianos (not solely grand pianos as you implied).

Secret: They're not. Actually, I would say that Sampling is as good as modelling can be if it is done right. On the other side, modelling can really sound artifical if the model is bad. Modeling is not a win per sé.
