The National Health Authority (NHA) under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission has implemented a QR code-based OPD registration service that allows the patients to scan the hospital’s unique QR code with their mobile phone and share their profile details with the hospital.

The hospital’s HMIS solution consumes this information and generates a token number or queue number for the patients. This token number is then sent to the mobile phone of the patients who can wait at designated areas until their token number is displayed on the overhead screens.

This process drastically reduces the wait time for patients, ensuring accurate data entry into HMIS, doing away with the need for patients to stand in incessantly long queues.

Patients only visit the counter for any applicable payments and availing their OPD card.

The initiative was launched as a pilot project for a faster OPD registration service at the new OPD block of the Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) and Smt. Sucheta Kriplani Hospital (SSKH) in New Delhi in October last year and has now been extended to 347 hospitals.
