The 4 reactions that, step by step, build a helium atom from four of hydrogen. How the surplus electrons are destroyed and how all of this pumps heat into the sun's core. It's known as the P-P process and it's the main way small stars produce their power.

Surprisingly, the core of the Sun actually only produces about 250W of continuous power per cubic meter. That's only like the heat produced by two candles. It's only because of the Sun's enormous size that the total continuous output is so large.

The first process is electron capture that creates a neutron making a neutrino and posotron in the process. The process is quantum in nature rather than simply thermonuclear. What is extremely odd is that too many neutrinos have been detected recently so something strange is going on...
