BioLite CampStove 2- Field Testing in the wilds of Ontario
Been using this for over 5 years. Very reliable, very easy to use, and very fuel efficient. Use with and transport inside the BioLite KettlePot for maximum efficiency
Pricey but great kit. You can pay more and bundle in other BioLite products. The campstove 2 and kettlepot weigh 3 lbs but I kayak camp and would consider the weight worth the price in the outdoors if hiking.
Apocabox gave me a lot of Instafire. I tried it. It was a major fail for me. Sorry but at the price it should catch a spark easily and hold a flame long enough to work. It did not.
Cuso tea. Very tasty and easy to use but honestly just carry tea bags!

I've had a Biolite stove (gen 1) for several years now. I got it used on Ebay. Maybe used once or twice tops. Battery wasn't charged for a very long time. I replaced the battery and it works perfectly. Just yesterday I ordered several Accessories for it that I've been wanting for a while now. Can't wait to try them out!

On a side note you do the same thing I do when using a fero rod. Which I found out was wrong. You're supposed to hold the stricker stationary as to not disrupt the kindling and swip the rod away from kindling. I find it harder to do for some reason. So I definitely have many Bic lighters as well. Cheers!

I've been thinking about getting one of those. Thanks for the honest, unsponsored review.

People seems to convey that the ferro rods last forever and will literally set dog poo on fire in a monsoon, but really they require super fine and very dry tinder. And they won’t last that long either If you keep using them daily. I have a fun firestarting video in mind for when I come back home ;)

It is a great little stove to have and l can see it being very useful indeed. l not its not cheap but anything thats good is never cheap. The trip has been great so far and looking forward to seeing what you can fit in the kayak.

Glad you mentioned the stove name! I have a small solar charger and it won't charge the iPad.

Biolite works OK. Bic is the way to go lots of times. Thank you for the video, Mr Huple

Good review mate. Have seen biolites here in Oz. Very expensive.
Yes ferro rods can be tricky. I prefer the blast match, can be used one handed, in situations with a hand injury.
All the best mate.

I keep a $3 Mora-knockoff utility knife to scrape a rod (with the blade-edge). Then, I get out the Bic

Works best when resting on a firm surface. ✨ ✨Can't take a bic on a plane, but ferro rod is okay. Bic is in my hat, ferro rod is in bag. 💚 I am amused by all of the smokers who don't carry a bic... ☆ So well prepared!

I like your stove! I've just purchased several big lighters! That was one prep I was very short on!

I enjoy using a ferro rod, I really like using char with it because it helps by being easy to catch when one of those sparks hit it. And yes a bic is always useful.

Yes I agree, when I used to hunt a lot always carried 3 or 4 bic lighters minimum. Looks like a nice tranquil spot there Huples.

Fire starting is a skill you have top practice all the time ans most of us just don't have the time or the area to. Stay safe. ATB. Nigel

YT, Survival Lilly, has a video on fire steels. She places the end of the rod on the kindling. Yes I carry a bic lighter in my fire kit too. The blast match works great on cotton eye pads infused with Vaseline.
Helps with damp kindling, very compact with many in zip lock bag. Our hot temps here, the Vaseline will liquefy, hence stored in zip lock bag.
