I am brand new to sewing clothes but I am figuring out a few options for a better edge and finish. Let me know if this is helpful or if you have other ways to make clothes look finished.

Hi Dale, any viewers that unscribed just made your ship lighter. Forget them. I don't know a lot about sewing clothes but a little, and one thing that might help you with neckline trim, etc., is doing UNDERSTITCHING, which is a tailoring method also used to do a knife-edged binding on a quilt which is how I usually finish the edges of my quilts now. The understitching helps to be able to turn the neckline in (or the quilt edge) and have it lie flat with the stitches invisible. Love your videos and they still make me smile and laugh. Keep them coming and make anything you want to.

Bless you Dale. It's your channel, be you. Share what you chose to share, keep private and sacred what you don't want to share. There's plenty of other channels for people to watch if they don't like your personality. Thanks a million for all you share and your compassion in breaking things down, so everyone, no matter their skill level can follow.

I've been sewing garments since I was a child. My Dad was a tailor, and my Grandmother was a dressmaker. I slowly transitioned into quiltmaking, now that's all I do. And I loved Captain Caftan. I made myself four...However, I didn't have the nerve to wear them out. LOL

Dale, you always make me laugh!! I just love to watch you, don’t even care what you’re doing. Screw anyone that doesn’t agree with your lifestyle. You know, one of those things you don’t have anymore, if they can’t take a joke. I’ll quit what I’m doing when I get a notice that you posted a new video. Keep up the good work.

Howdy,
I love those, they look so comfy. I’ve taken things apart because I didn’t want the thread to show, then I remembered that you can always have a different color thread in the bobbin. 🙂

that's pretty cool how making clothes and quilting can be almost intertwined, although I'm not quite ready to venture into making clothes though. my piecing and quilting is horrible, I don't think id be a beginner☺️ but my quilts are good enough for me😁😁😁Plus I enjoy watching your videos, with them being both entertaining and educational!!!

Captain Caftan is a cool dude. I finished my blue caftan with french seams and interfacing with a boat neckline instead of a v neck. It is awesome to wear!!! If I make another one, I'm going to try faux piping binding for a extra splash of color. Thank you for posting this video!

just what I did over 20 years ago now, when I made them put the bias binding on BEFORE you sew the side seams make it go so much easier and instead of that deep ''V'' neck opening round it out and not as deep makes binding it a lot easier... and for ladies save what you cut rom the sides and make ruffles out of them and put that around the sides and not have that taper down on the sides just have straight sides

For most garments you just don't need to do the industrial strength binding that you do for quilts, so this totally makes sense. The traditional facing technique, which is basically the same as yours (folding on the seamline), works great, but here you essentially demonstrate the use of a much narrower facing. Which means we can save that fabric for other purposes!

You're gorgeous, now stop looking at yourself and look into the camera so we get more of the pretty! If you have to put a dot above the camera and focus on that to lift your eyes. Only glance at yourself to make sure all your fabulousness is in the frame. You got the stuff babe, let us be a part of it fully. 😘

I started with garments, so quilting was a piece of cake.

That is similar to a facing finish. Right?
