Today's Catholic Mass Gospel and Reflection for August 17, 2024 - Matthew 19:13-15

Welcoming the Little Ones

Saturday of the Nineteenth Week in Ordinary Time
Lectionary: 418

Alleluia: See Mt 11:25
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth; you
have revealed to little ones the mysteries of the Kingdom.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Matthew 19:13-15
Then they brought to him little children, so that he would place his hands upon them and pray. But the disciples rebuked them. Yet truly, Jesus said to them: “Allow the little children to come to me, and do not choose to prohibit them. For the kingdom of heaven is among such as these.” And when he had imposed his hands upon them, he went away from there.

Saturday, August 17, 2024 - A moment with GOD through HIS WORD.

Reflection: How can you ensure you’re welcoming everyone to experience God’s love, just as Jesus welcomed the children?

Prayer: My tender Lord, You welcome all people to share in Your grace. You welcome every child and every child of God to share in Your loving embrace. Please extend that welcome to me and help me to accept this gift of Your infinite love. And help me to become a better instrument of Your love toward others, never interfering or preventing them from turning to You. Jesus, I trust in You.

Amen! What a wonderful in site to our lives concerning our lives to come. As we have read and should understand a thousand years is as one day to God. We may look at our lives as "educated", thus more understanding of God's desires for us, but truly we deceive ourselves. The sinless Son of God recognized that these little ones were also sinless and as such, examples here on earth of the coming life we all seek. When the day comes that we are taken from this life and, hopefully enter into the Kingdom of God, we will find ourselves much like these little ones. The innocence of these little ones is the desire we should have in our faith and service to God. I would pose this question to you, would you rather stand in judgement before Jesus knowing that you have made your life in obedience to your faith, or stand before Him that you lived it as self indulgent, choosing what was best for you? I think the former rather than the latter. Little children are truly impressionable. As you have noted, as a child grows, they learn what love means as they witness it and experience it, and this is the most important part of your statement, especially through the mediation of their parents. We can take this example one step farther. This is just as true in our lives when we become followers of Christ. It is a recognition of the love God has for us through the selfless sacrifice Christ made on the cross. Our faith has a continuous growth as we learn just how abundant God's love for us is when we serve Him and experience it. There is nothing imposing about our faith and our life in the flesh, rather it is a choice we make in this journey called life. Jesus made it very clear in Mark 12:17, "Give to Ceaser what belongs to Ceaser, and give to God what belongs to God." If we choose to live our lives in the flesh, we do not lose the love of God for God will never stop loving His creation, but we lose a relationship that is forged in the undeniable truth that the life of Christ achieved for us. God has accepted His responsibility for us as His children just as we have a responsibility to nurture our children with love and the message of grace that can be had in being obedient to Him.🙏💖🕊🕊🕊
