The Ryze Tello has built up a lot of hype since it was announced not long ago and really puts itself out there as a great beginner drone. It's got a fair price tag, for most beginners, but can it actually do everything it promises? We are here to put the Tello to the test, both indoors and out. We want to see, after testing Hundreds of drones, if this beats everything else in it's category or not! Long charge times, but decently long flight times, which is more important to you? Are brushed motors an okay sacrifice for the price? How about flying from your phone without a dedicated transmitter? These are all questions we are going to find answers for so be sure to stay tuned 'till the end of the video!

Have we ever saved you money or helped you pick out your favorite RC? Consider saying thanks by supporting us with one of these awesome options below!

I just got one yesterday. Flew with my android phone and my iPad air 2. There was a new firmware for it maybe that’s why I didn’t get the jitters like you were getting. My yard is about 50 yards long I had no trouble flying it out and back in 10 mile an hour winds with 18 mile an hour gusts. Flying it forward or back I did not have any frame skips only when I tried yaw. I have two other drones with 720 P cameras this is by far the sharpest picture and smoothest this picture I’ve gotten. The camera in my Hubsan H502E is a joke. The Hubsan is a GPS drone and even with that it cannot compare to the stability of the Tello. I think stronger Wi-Fi chip in my iPad was a factor. Bought this drone to take with me to parties without worrying about smacking it to someone and hurting them. Very easy to control. It’s also small enough and quiet enough to take to a park and Not have people bother me about flying a drone. It feels like a piece of technology not a piece of cheap plastic. I plan on getting a Wi-Fi extender and test that out. Show me one of the most amazing things is that it has no trim buttons because it doesn’t need it. I didn’t do anything to calibrate this just turned it on and this thing hung in the air like it was on strings. And also customer service is remarkable. I had a question and right in the Tello app there’s a link that takes you to a live chat. I was speaking to a person within five seconds and got my questions answered. Worth every penny I spent.

I like your review. You touch all the features. You also make it clear it is not DJI. I like the sensors maybe some else will run with them.

You guys are awesome, I stumbled across your Channel in one of my YouTube surfing sessions and you guys single-handedly sparked an interest that I didn't even know I had and RCs and drones. It's taking me awhile 2 get into the hobby as you guys know is so many choices available on the market and without your reviews it would have been a daunting task. But I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you guys do and giving me a hobby, interestingly enough I've never had a hobby, I know that's very hard to believe but it's true. Not only have you provided me a new activity which is as you know way too much fun but you've allowed me away to bond with my stepson. I've searched for years for something to link us together and it turns out that drones and quadcopters have been that bridge. Because of you guys I now have a relationship and a blooming friendship with my son which is priceless. Not to mention your guys's videos are awesome, informative and a great source for me to acquire information on my new hobby. I'm a little slow starting and trying to manage my budget so that I can acquire some quadcopters for my son and I but I am patient and I know I will get to that point and because of your guys Channel I don't fear searching and finding quadcopters that will be fun for my son and I. I don't normally write stuff like this and I'm not generally known as a Sentimental individual but a true thank you is owed for creating a chance to have a relationship with my stepson. So thank you very much for all that you guys have done and I'm sure we'll continue to do. Now I'm off to Surf through all of your videos to try to find something that I will be able to afford for my son and I. As I said before I don't do this kind of stuff often but I am so very grateful, thank you very much!

The digital stabilisation seems to work very well and the quality of imagine is fine, more wide angle would have been better but all and all in this price range, and for its ideal use, seems to be kind of cool. Obviously the Hubsan you mentioned is better but it doesn't have video stabilisation...and I'm a fan of the Hubsans...

A few worthwhile things to note about the Tello that may not have been known when this was reviewed. There is now a third party app to allow changing the vertical distance higher than the 10M mentioned. The app is free and just allows you to set a new height limit. Secondly, a $13 range extender will drastically extend the range of this drone in all directions and smooth the video out a lot. The still camera quality however is better than probably anything in it's price range. With the extender mentioned above I have seen this flown at 100 feet altitude (I wouldn't ), and about 300 feet distance. I also think the throw and go feature coupled with hand landing is very useful for places you don't want to launch from, sand, high grass, etc.

The battery popping out is actually a really smart engineering design, some cellphones used to be designed this way, so if the cellphone falls to a hard floor all the energy is directed to the battery as it goes out so the board and the screen are mostly unaffected, they probably choose the same here so when the battery goes out the body and the motors get as little damage as possible

wow, i was expecting more from the tello. Glad yall did a great review of it. The hubsan will get my money. Also great review of the f100, i bought it and love it. It was on sale for 54 bucks.

1) Changing the battery on the Hubsan H216A X4 is too much trouble. 2) The Tello has a very good rating on Amazon. 3) It's an advantage that I can walk, 24/7, to my local Walmart and purchase a replacement Tello!

I've had my Tello for about a mo th now and I just love it, mine does not sound as loud as yours also I am using a different app for mine, a long with game controller plugged with a otg cable and I am not seeing any lag I would like to see you review with a controller as well as the touchscreen to see the difference.

Ugh...I just ordered this as my first drone BEFORE I saw this review (yes I am a new subscriber). I hope the software updates have made this a better drone. I also ordered this as a kit that comes with a controller so I'm hoping that makes a difference. Great reviews! Thank you for sharing your non-biased insight. It's very refreshing!

Hands down the hubsan, first its got a controller and it’s gps, at one is just not worth the price, great job guys, it’s getting closer to spring and I’ll be glad when all the cold and rainy days are over great job guys 👍👍

Good review. You are correct about the Hubsan being better. My first small GPS camera quad was a Hubsan 501S. Looks like your fence isn't constructed of pressure treated wood. I learned a lesson from the first fence I put up. Always choose pressure treated fencing. I replaced my stockade six years ago. It is in great condition, without all the painting or any other maintenance.

Hi Nate and Abby,
This was a pretty nice review. I was hoping you would have tested one of it's main selling points and the only reason I am somewhat interested in it. That is it's supposed ability to be programmed using Scratch. If that feature works then this could become a decent teaching tool. I wouldn't say great because of the legitimate shortcomings you pointed out.
Having a battery that can be jarred loose and can only be charged in the Tello could really create frustration with young people trying to test the functionality of the program they just created.
Thanks to your review I will be thinking twice about getting this.
