Imagine the hospital staff going on their day as normal. Everyones voice just slowly slowly gets higher. And nobody notices it happening

"Bricked" typically means damage that renders the device permanently nonfunctional unless it's repaired. Iphones eventually recover from helium exposure without any repair work.

Thank you for raising awareness about this. I was going to vacuum seal my iPhone in helium today but now I know not to

_Eventually, the iPhones stopped thinking._

Doctor: *Sees iphone got bricked*

(in a comically high-pitched voice) “Yeah it’s probably the electromagnetic pulse…”

The type of tech malfunction you'd expect in a Star Trek episode.

I used to work in a helium balloon factory... but I won't be spoken to in that tone of voice

Working in the manufacture of implantable devices, we assemble them with an internal atmosphere of helium so that we can detect leaks.

Imagine stepping into that hospital, taking a deep breath, and witnessing everyone inside it (including you) speak in really high pitch 😭

As an offensive cybersecurity specialist, this is a huge and RARE physical exploit that could be used to brick entire Apple based servers. Wowza

I would also stop thinking if you put me in a bag filled with helium.

The chemical or physical effect the helium has on the phone would be nice to know too. I thought helium is an inert gas

Edit: If you have to say something about this, maybe read the comments first because said thing maybe already is mentioned there.

the company I was at figured this out in like 2016 don't know if they ever told apple though, we thought it was such odd thing it would not be relevant to the general public since you needed fairly high helium levels. when i heard the public news few years later about mri techs i thought it was quite funny that someone else would be exposed to that much helium.

i imagine there probably just wasn't enough helium leaking out for it to happen, but it's really funny to imagine everyone in the hospital's voices suddenly getting gradually higher pitched

imagine just talking to a patient and your voice starts sounding higher pitched

Nice to review this news story from 6 years ago. Many people missed it back then.
