RC 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft Maiden with Shuttle

Показать описание
This is my latest large foamboard plane project. This is based off the NASA 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft. The fuselage is built using a center foamboard box spar with formers, wrapped in foarmbard sheets. Wooden yard sticks and paint sticks are used to structurally reinforcing in the fuselage, vertical and horizontal stabilizers. The wings are a foamboard shells with foarmboard spars reinforced with yard sticks, and filed with expanding spray foam. They are removable from the fuselage and held on with aluminum tubes fixed to the wings and a 3D printed housing installed in the fuselage.
The Shuttle is built out of foamboard with box fuselage with formers for the curved top. To access the inside I built is to that you open the cargo bay doors. It is also built with a removable tail cone so that it can be switched between glider, powered flight and maybe some day model rocket assisted flight(?)

-7'-9" wingspan
-8'-9" overall plane length.
-Weight as of test: 17.5 lbs.

A special thanks to Chris for masterfully piloting the 747, Paul filming the flights and all my fellow club members who put up with and support all my crazy ideas like this.
