"Test Me" is probably one of my favorite Melanie Martinez songs, but not many people actually know it despite it being such a good song

“I’ll make the most before the coffin” is so good

An interpretation I like to give this song is that it's about the way patriarchal society judges and scrutinizes women and places them on a pedestal so long as they conform to the ideal of what a woman should be. Melanie starts by addressing "God" a figure recognized as male in most dominant world religions(and she uses the religious analogy because almost all religions use their belief system as an excuse to subjugate women and place them in the inherently lesser roles, as submissive to their men, keepers of the home, objects of heterosexual male temptation and lust, and so on and so forth). We see that men enjoy making women suffer for their own personal pleasure, and forcing them to undergo rituals that serve the purpose of satisfying men or making them fuckable to them(hence lines like "born to be desired" as our society paints the picture that women only exist to be the objects of men's affections), stuff like abusing or raping them because it gives men power, sexually assaulting/harassing and catcalling them because they think every woman that exists is public property/decoration, or leaking and sharing nudes of their girlfriends without their girlfriends' consent. And how women often feel pressured to do things like diet, exercise, get plastic surgery, shave, and starve themselves in the name of beauty, because being desirable to men and conforming to beauty norms that were ultimately created by men is the measure of their worth, so much so that it's more important than their life or health.

Melanie reminds the "God"(who really symbolizes the patriarchy) that she is only mortal, aka that women are human beings, and deserve to be treated as such, rather than as sex objects or idealized and spotless figures to be placed on a pedestal. The line "and I beg to be tested by goddesses resting their heads upon pillows of all they have learned" shows that she is done allowing men to measure her worth, she no longer seeks their validation, she instead seeks love and companionship from other women. Rather than treating her as a "jester" who exists for them to be entertained, the goddesses are portrayed as gentle and welcoming, showing how women have solidarity with each other and are more sympathetic to each other due to the crushing heel that is patriarchy, and are a calming presence as opposed to the ruthless and sadistic God. It also validates the power of the Divine Feminine that is often ignored and shunned by most religious doctrine, after all, if the divine and all-powerful figure that rules the world is male, then the patriarchy has an excuse for the upholding of male supremacy.
