Watch Nick Menza play MEGADETH's "Tornado Of Souls" two years before his death featuring David Ellefson's original 1990 isolated bass track which originally appeared on the band's classic fourth album, "Rust In Peace".

Released in September 1990 via Capitol Records, it was MEGADETH's first LP with guitarist Marty Friedman and drummer Nick Menza following the departures of Jeff Young and Chuck Behler.

The HD video, shot in a two-camera-angle mix, was filmed in March 2014 at Uberbeatz Studios in Seattle, Washington. The audio was mixed by Richard Easterling / KRM Studios and is believed to be some of the final studio drum recordings of Menza before he passed away more than two years later.

The footage was supposed to be used for the late drummer's first-ever instructional DVD, "Intense Mega Drumming", with tons of tips and tricks from Menza's arsenal to help teach anybody out there become a better player. The DVD, which was produced and directed by Kari Pearson and edited by Menza's manager, Robert Bolger, has since been shelved.

I really miss him. Not only a great drummer, but also a talented show man. I've had the privilege to see him live with Megadeth back in 1997 during the Monsters of Rock Tour in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. I will never forget him standing up behind that huge shining drum kit.

The best rhythm section the band has ever known. Actually, the entire band at that time.

This was one of the songs that got me through the Gulf War. My absolute favorite Megadeth song.

Most memorable and notable Metal line up in history. We can only imagine what they would have gone on to record together 😏 RIP Nick

I spent 3 years learning how to drum Rust In Peace from start to finish, note-for-note. When you see him struggling at 4:45, that's about as real as it gets. It doesn't seem that bad, but it is. Keeping that momentum going over the course of such a long song is grueling. There's very little in the way of switch-ups. Tornado of Souls is probably the hardest song to drum on that album. There are more technically complex songs like Take No Prisoners (my favorite to drum on that album), but TOS is all about stamina. You can tell he wouldn't have been ready to rejoin Megadeth at that point and maintain a touring schedule. Still, Menza was a HUGE inspiration for me, and my very first drum teacher.

Metal stripped down to bass and drums sounds so badass. The guitars are just the icing on this delicious cake

Did you know when Dave Lombardo quit Slayer the first time in 1987, Tom Araya wanted Nick to come be their drummer but they ended up getting Tony Scaglione and Nick ended up joining Megadeth a year or so later. I saw a interview from 94 about Lombardo quitting slayer for a second time in 92 and Tom said in the interview he wanted Nick Menza back in 87 and they were going to ask Nick again in 92 but Nick was with Megadeth full time so they went with Paul Bostaph. Would've been interesting to hear slayer with a drummer like Nick Menza because I always felt like Nick had more of a swing in his drumming. He was perfect for Megadeth.

Love the way he hits those cymbals on that kit. Not incredibly loud a little more sustained but still crisp enough that it sounds good God bless brother

Wow, compared to modern metal bands, this is simplistic.
Daves guitar playing amd shredding over this, is what made the song.
