Board Game List Season is one of my favorite times of the year!

Massive Darkness 2 was my most player game of 2022 and related my top “New to Me” game this year. Still plenty of content to go and I’m loving it all.

Feed the Kraken is so surprisingly good! And I have played it at the minimum player count (5) 3 times so far, and exclusively. That's not many plays... but the second time I played I had the game set aside as the 'heavy' option for my relatives who never normally touch games. For some reason they picked it... and they LOVED it, and it was fun for all involved! We played it another time right after and they wanted to play it a third time in a row but it was getting late. This was over Thanksgiving. They demanded that I bring it in December!

A couple of those are on my list to play in 2023 too! I've played three landings in ISS Vanguard and it is so good! Hoping to to get Fall of the Mountain King to the table. Ordered it with In the Hall of the Mountain King at the same time, so that needs to find the table too. Don't own it but a friend bought Massive Darkness 2 and it greatly improves on the first iteration of the game. It ranks right up with Cthulhu Death May Die and Zombicide Black Plague as my favorite CMON games of all-time. The stories we have from our one weekend of playing it still get mentioned all the time. Hope to play it again. Thanks for sharing this video!

Wife and I have played MD2 at least a dozen times and it's in our mutual top 5s now so it gets my vote! The nice part of not loving one class is you can either try a different skill tree or class entirely

Would also love to play Feed the Kraken. 5-11 player count is tough though.

Guards of Atlantis 2 is the best team game in existence. End of story. It's phenomenal and the amount of strategy, depth and variability in the game is nothing short of amazing. It is one of the few games I have ever rated a 10 on BGG, and I cannot see that ever changing. Seriously, I cannot praise this game highly enough, it is just that darned good.

You also absolutely need to play Feed The Kraken. I honestly think it is the best long form social deception game out there. Take it to Cons. Take it to parties. Do whatever you can, but play the game.

Massive Darkness 2 is excellent and I've played it a bunch, but you may have a problem with it in that it is probably a bit on the easy side. I frequently still *feel* under pressure and like things could go sideways, even though they don't. That, and the cumbersome setup are its biggest issues, but outside of that, it's a great dice chucking coop that is just unmitigated fun.

I feel your pain with "Feed the Kraken", since I got my Kickstarter I've only been able to table it once and that was only 5 players. However, it's just so much damn fun I don't want to let go of it. H00t!

I would love to get my hands on Guards of Atlantis 2. So hard to find. I just unboxed my DEI and built the tiles. Can't wait to play it, after I learn it lol

Just want to say thank you so much for your videos! My wife and I are new to the hobby this year and your context has been so good to give us direction on what games to try, what genres of games we might enjoy, and amazing reviews! Any suggestions for board games or extras send them our way!

ISS Vangaurd is great - a little unpolished in a couple of places with upkeep but a great story and feels like you are unlocking stuff continually at a really good place.

Feed the Karaken feels like a great game for a convention (played it a few times).

Right there with you on Massive Darkness 2. I have a ton of extra content and MD 1, that I fully intend incorporating into MD 2. So far, I have played 2 games, the last one being about 5 weeks ago! I have the added complication of being a painter and so I tend to delay playing until, at least the core box, is painted. I need to break this rule as I always have so much to paint, that it stops me from getting games to the table. With Zombicide 2nd Edition on the painting table, MD 2 might be next....if I don't start on Undead or Alive?!

Nice to see Pagan: Fate of Roanoke getting some love. I need to play it more this year as well. Hopefully a wider release will boost awareness of this great game

Feed The Kraken is probably a too short game for you :) But it is so much fun, and you can play muliple times a day. I think this is the best game for 7-11 people. We have better options for 5 and 6 players, but sometimes, when we are in such a mood, we choose this one over Dune or Dig your way out or Zombicide Invader. (Could you recommend some good games for 5-6 players which are about 3-4 hours long maximum? )

I really want to just get a weekly group for the Massive Darkness 2 campaign going, and some of my friends are on board, but the Sunday group is just so used to doing Brimstone every time that it's hard to nudge the last couple holdouts, despite being at that game for years and years. It's a tad frustrating.

I also need to play more Great Wall when the errataed content comes in, as well as Federation, which I barely touched, and there is much more Endless Winter content for me to explore (although I am skeptical about how much I will like Rivers and Rafts). Of course Mosaic needs more love too (played 5 games), and I need to try mixing in New Leaf with more Everdell expansions.

Have you done a list of Top 10 kickstarters you are looking forward to getting in 2023?

+1 for ISS Vanguard. Initial plays have been fun and interesting. Definitely appreciate the Ship phase and the strategic decisions that you have to make in that part of the game. Hope it holds up and continues to keep our interest as we get further into it.

As far as the rest of the list, Marrakesh is one that I think looks very interesting. Not exactly the type of game that I'd normally be drawn to but it's one I'd definitely like to try based on the overview/playthroughs I've seen.

You're the only one I've seen mention DEI and it looks very interesting, shame I missed the KS. So a more in depth look at DEI would be very interesting.

Always enjoy your lists, it's usually something on them I haven't come across before that piques my interest since I've found that my taste in games and what I appreciate (powers & abilities et al) align quite well with yours. Thanks for all your work putting these out!

A hidden gem for me this year have been Legends of Void, a game that is very much based on the engine of Terraforming Mars but has enough new and different elements that it stands out on its own with a setting I enjoy much more and a production value that is through the roof. It's a bit more messy, but the gameplay has been much more interesting to us. The Kickstarter has recently been fulfilled but as I've understood there are still copies left in warehouses so I can definitely recommend checking it out if anyone is a fan of Terraforming Mars!

I‘ve played DEI several times now two player and solo and I‘m really enjoying it. Hope to play it the next weekend with three players.
I think it’s a real shame that’s running under the radar for a lot of players. Very good game and I‘m really looking forward to your review. ☺️👍
