The Importance of Scripture in Understanding God
In this video, we will explore the significance of the scriptures and why they are crucial in our understanding of God.

The scriptures, consisting of the sixty-six books of the Bible, are the inspired, infallible, and inerrant word of God. They are of the highest authority and cannot be broken.

The scriptures are necessary for teaching, reproof, correction, and training in righteousness. They provide spiritual life and are sufficient for life and godliness.

The scriptures are God's special revelation to us, in contrast to general revelation, which can be seen in nature. General revelation reveals God's existence and moral responsibility, but special revelation is necessary for salvation and knowing God personally.

The scriptures are self-verifying and internally consistent. They are the ultimate authority over all matters they address.

The canon of scripture consists of the thirty-nine books in the Old Testament and the twenty-seven books in the New Testament. The Apocrypha, although historically valuable, is not inspired and not part of the canon.

Interpreting the scriptures is essential, and it is important to read each genre of literature as intended. Scripture should be read literally, recognizing different genres such as narrative, poetry, and parables.

The scriptures are the supreme judge by which all controversies of religion are to be determined. They are the ultimate authority over tradition, councils, opinions of ancient writers, doctrines of men, and private spirits.

Jesus himself recognized the authority of the scriptures and used them to combat temptation. He continually went back to the scriptures, stating, 'It is written.'

As believers, we are called to study and rightly handle the scriptures. They are our lamp and light, purifying our lives and giving us assurance of salvation.

In conclusion, the scriptures are the breathed out, infallible, and inerrant word of God. They are of the highest authority and provide us with everything we need for life and godliness. Let us cherish and study the scriptures, recognizing their significance in our understanding of God.
