We also had the question of "Kettling" a few years ago during protests. Protestors were blocked from leaving a certain area for several hours.

I had 6 rozzers using their force on me, with their boots.
Me, I had my hands cuffed behind my back and been Thrown face down onto concrete.
I was released from Reading nick without charge 22 hours later, to attend AnE.
I was released because I was INNOCENT.
It took 3 months, nearly, to be able to walk properly again.
Such brave men.
I often wonder how brave they would have been, patrolling the streets of Belfast with me when I was out there during "the troubles "".

The police knocked on my neighbours door looking for Mr X, he informed them he'd lived at that address 20 yrs and never knew Mr X, they asked for his name which he provided, he was then told to provide photographic ID else he would be arrested on suspicion of being Mr X. He is quite timid so obliged, but he was quite upset about the whole thing.

I think police who block people yet insist they are not being detained really want to detain them but they need something verbal to give them suspision/grounds.

I read somewhere that handcuffs aren't meant to be used the way the police do. They're only meant to use them if theres reasonable belief that they are required. E.g tried running, resistant or violent. From my experience they use them excessively. I got cuffed for a stop and search. It's ridiculous

In my experience they do as they please. My advice would be not to say anything because later they can and will use it against you.

Police came to my cousins door, and wasn’t under arrest but it felt like it was just without handcuffs, still had to go into the police station for a voluntary interview to give his version of events. Legally, you can refuse and tell the police to go away. It even said that on the police rights paper I was given.

Depends.

If you are committing criminal acts by blocking roads, the police will gladly let you do so and may even give a rendition of the Macarena to keep you entertained.

Put an associate of mine in a wheelchair for life (using the "right amount" of force).

There are loads of videos out there where police get in the way of people leaving. They ask them if they are being detained and the police reply "no" yet continue to stop the person leaving.
