How to Remove Json Files from Google Photo Takeout on a PC

***Please be advised that by deleting the .json files, you delete the metadata (thus removing the date to keep in chronological order).***

If you know how to merge the json file with the image instead, please comment on the video & I'll add it here for people.

After downloading a google backup that contains photos, .json files may overrun your pictures folders. Here's a quick way on a PC to sort through them and only download the image files that you want to backup.

The first part of the video defines and discusses what json files are and other options you may have tried that are found on the web. Then the video goes into how to proceed with the method.

Yes !!! Finally ! A 100% efficient tutorial. I have around 170 GB / 50.000 photos stored on Google Photos. Imagine the tremendous work I should have done without this brilliant trick !!!

json files are 1K so you can group by file size and then group select using Ctrl + Shift. All photos and videos are much larger than 1K. Great video.

Mam, you are a saviour. I mean it by all the sense I can put into this comment. You just straight up solved the biggest problem of Google Zip photos for the whole world. Big thanks for this.

Takeout strips all that information from your photos and puts them in those JSON files so it's absolutely crucial that we merge that information back into the picture if we want them to keep their chronological order and correct information when importing elsewhere.

You just deleted all your EXIF data from your images.. if you just delete the metadata json…

You need to merge the info to the photo first

Thanks but doesn't deleting all the json delete all the meta data? Will the #DATE_TAKEN be lost if you delete the json?

Don’t delete those json files, they are the metadata files which keeps track of when the picture was clicked, location etc so when you want to see them in order such as year, month or location where it was clicked, you will find it difficult to do so if that important json file is deleted.
