Ive been blown away as an hvac tech working military housing maintenance. This video reminds me of the techs I worked with. I dont claim to be the best but, I would never say an issue was resolved unless there was no questions left to be asked. It seems fundamental to check every possible point of intrusion.

In 80s me and my family lived on Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama.
One day when was starting my day, none of my water would drain in sink or in toilet. I call the maintenance crew. They arrived to clean out the soil stack pipe on the roof. They inserted the coil cleaning device about 6 feet. Before I knew it they were off the roof in a hot New York minute. A skunk and her babies had managed to get done the soil stack pipe. The crew went back to there tool shed to get more tools. The momma skunk and her babies didn't make it out alive that day. The maintenance crew had to bust through the wall inside the apartment and remove the whole thing and replace it. They gave us a check to spend the next couple of days at a local hotel till was all fixed. I was happy because they hotel had a pool. Me and my kids had a blast.

If my memory hasn't been eaten by the rat's, that vent is supposed to terminate 18 inches above the roofline !

We have had squirrels here in the south that have no problem in chewing through anything, including Christmas lights, phone lines (years ago) and vents on our roof! Also found a dead bird in the lining of our chimney and for many weeks had to every night run a comb around everywhere the rug met the wall along the floor line to remove any eggs. Tried spray, but this aided in that horrible situation! Whoosh 😅!!

I hate to ask this but if the rats are coming out of the pipe and immediately into the building, why is the mesh not fully covering the top part a problem? It would'nt stop anything unless it was directly on the pipe

Most trade workers will intentionally not fix the blatantly obvious problem for a variety of reason, they dont care, they dont like how the homeowner greeted them or something, they want to be an asshole that day, they want to try to scam money off the person,
