Eczema on eyelids Causes:

So, what causes eczema on eyelids? It is unclear what causes conditions such as atopic dermatitis, though there seems to be a genetic component, and it can run in families. Where possible, it is helpful to identify and avoid contact irritants and allergens that can cause flare-ups. These can include certain makeup brands,...

Symptoms:

Dermatitis on the eyelids causes inflammation of the thin, sensitive skin around the eyes. The eyelids become irritated, swollen, dry, and reddened. It can affect one or both of the eyes. If this condition persists, the eyelids can become thickened in a process called lichenification.

Types:

Common forms of eyelid eczema include allergic contact dermatitis, Irritant contact dermatitis, Atopic dermatitis, Seborrheic dermatitis, and others.

Treatment and prevention:

To treat eczema on eyelids, experts will often recommend topical corticosteroids to battle inflammation, but these can be too strong on your delicate eyelid skin. If your doctor decides a corticosteroid cream is the best treatment for your case of eczema, they’ll likely only prescribe it for a short period of time because it can cause thinning of your eyelids and the skin around your eyes. So, this treatment needs to be supervised by a physician.

So, how can we prevent outbreaks of eyelid dermatitis?

For all kinds of eyelid dermatitis, people should keep the eye area clean and avoid touching it or scratching it. This helps to prevent further irritation or infection.

There is some advice for you.

1. Moisturize regularly. Using a moisturizer on the eyelids each day may prevent symptoms from developing.
2. Wear protective gear. Shielding the eyes from potential irritants, using goggles or glasses, can help.
3. Restrict makeup use. Using makeup around the eyes, such as eye shadow or mascara, can irritate the sensitive eye area. Using less or switching to hypo-allergenic brands can be helpful.
4. Try anti-itching products. Over-the-counter medications can reduce the urge to itch. A hot or cold compress may also help.
5. Avoid scratching or rubbing eyelids.

I have had problems with my eyelids since the beginning of 2019. Soon two years now !! Have never had problems with eczema or similar problems before in my entire life. Have been in contact with doctors several times but only get cortisone ointment but my problems always come back or it does not help. My eyelid do not itch, but sting, very red, very very dry, tight skin so it hurts. Bought lots of creams and stuff that supposed to be good for this type of problem but nothing helps. Stopped using makeup and other things when this started 2019.. This is ruin my life it feels like I cant find anything that helps me..

I carry a wet washcloth in my ziplock bag, that usually helps for a cold compression. Also small vaseline on the affected eyelids helped as well.

I have this. Came on suddenly. My eyelids became red and swollen. Afterwards they become dry.

No idea what is causing it. Driving me insane and makes me feel very embarrassed.

Steriods didnt work - ezcema cream helped. I reccoment emoilents such as epiderm as a cream. Wash with water, dont apply any other products. Leave it alone completely!

This is caused by high levels of candida in the body. Usually from eating too much sugar. I used to have eczema around my eyes. When I detoxed from candida and stopped the abuse of sugar (this included bread or anything converting into sugar), it went away.

This has happen recently with myself! I found coconut oil on my eye lids over night, and just strip everything away using ointment from local chemist! I still have redness on my forehead and unsure how to narrow this down.

This is dermatitis periocilaris. It is caused by spices, coffee, spinach, night shades like tomatoes (also canned), pistacho and peanuts, sweet potatoes... My eye eczema want away when I particularly stopped eating paprika chips (that often contain cayenne pepper). Ever had cayenne pepper in your eyes?

Finally found my solution.I am facing this issue from past 3 years, I used to have lots of make up on teens age but do not have any eczema, But recently realised why suddenly its happening then I have traced the 3 years back products.I have found that I have changed 3 years back dove bathing bar, but eczema did not caught immediately, but its on and off.so never realised my soap caused the issues, also used citaphel facial cleanser for 1 year but also its ON and OFF.I have managed with steroids all this years, one day I have decided I will use products as in my childhood.I used to use toilet soaps like mysore sandal, cinthol etc..when I used this High TFM value min 75 to 80.I have not had issues, so I started using sandal soap just saw the results in 3 days😂.
What I understood is TFM low and beauty bathing bars really does not cleanse properly if you used daily minimal make up as well, after wiping the makeup also some bits remain which causing the issues.so please change good grade soap or cleanser.hope it helps others😊good luck

I think this problem occured recently when I used a new face mask plus recent cold weather. THe skin above and below my eyelid looks extra thin and wrinkled because of the irritation. I have been using neosporin. Should I use Hydrocortisone Cream1%? Does the scaly look ever go away? If so, how long should it take? Thank you in advance for any advice.

I want to help as many as possible, what help me is below. I bought some Mac makeup online for cheap, booo. I narrowed it down to the makeup. Because I only put makeup on my eyelids and fore head, because I wear mask to wk daily. Well for about 3 weeks I kept itching and rubbing my eyelids & forehead. Until I woke up one morning with my lids crusted, swollen, red, forehead was drying, Well I didn't put any makeup on for about 5 days, and this is what I used on my face (Mupirocin 2% on the upper top of my lids ONLY, Artificial Tears & OCuSoft Lid Scrubs Plus 30 in pk. I GIVE GOD THE GLORY ...the cream was prescribed for bacterial/fungal infection, which I had FOR a rash almost a year ago on a small patch of my arm. Cream was like $40...but so worth. My lids are still healing, BUT MY 3 THINGS are WORKING FOR ME, healing my lids... itching, inflammation is gone and it's healing! BEST WISHES
