BMW Z3 to Electric Conversion - The Steering pump

Today I had the opportunity to run a test to see if the Ebay Steering pump worked or not. This video is the result of a quick hash and dash to get things up and running. The result is that the BMW has now electric hydraulic power steering.

That sound alone makes me want to buy it. Sounds like an old Messerschmitt BF109 starting up LoL

Hi mibars. The pump should work with most oils. the pump is fully self supporting control wise. PWM or pulse frequency control may lower the peak assist pressure. However the pressure requirement when driving is significantly less than at standstill. Reason why it starts slow is that it should first get 12V through the control lines and following later through the fat DC power lines. (alternator as source). I am using a 100A relay to cut off power when ignition is off as I do not have an alternator anymore in the Z3 :)
zero issues with this pump for 23000km

Double check the 10mm2 wires. One will be red, one is brown or black. Appearantly it varies.

The thin wires theres black, blue-yellow and brown.
black is 12V control, (connect to ignition 2 key via a fuse)
blue yellow is enable, connect this to ignition 2 via a / the fuse and optionallly a switch to turn the pump off if desired.
brown is to be connected to chassis (negative).

Hope this helps.

Did you have to get a mobile hose person out to crimp it into the existing power steering lines? I have a Astra G Pump that has a really tall filler but works the same. It arrived with its hoses cut at random lengths. I tested it some time ago and it spins up but not sure about how to get it plumbed in.

10mm wires: RED = 12v+, requires atleast 30A fuse, possibly even larger
Black = 0V Chassis.

0.5mm wires:
Black = 12V control logic. This should only draw little current. I cannot remember what it was, but assume 0.3A. You can use a 1A fuse just to be certain.
BLue-Yellow = PS enable. This enables the pump. I suspect the original car electronics would tell how fast the pump should turn by either PWM, Frequency modulation, or some sort of pulse-train. Hooking it up to 12V will start it.

Why this pump starts slow? Where is that yellow crocodile connected trough resistor going? What is that supercapacitor/batteries pack doing?

I've just bought a pump like this (at least on pictures it looks the same and is from Astra) and I'm wondering how are those 3 wires working. What I've guessed is that this pump has an integrated relay controlled by ignition and charging signals plus signal ground, but I can clearly see that you somehow control pump speed! How does it work then?
