The law is so different for each providence and state. I live in Alaska and the EMT/Fire volunteers use blue lights here. About 70% of motorist here make effort to get out-of-the-way of the volunteers.

This needs to stop being a courtesy a.d start being law. Volunteer firefighters need to get to station asap

As someone who has used and not used these lights, there is no point to using them. The green light does not give any authority to exceed a speed limit, run a stop sign or red light etc. What it does do is give young adrenaline infused responders a false sense of security and authority. Also, using a green light will render your insurance void. Just ask your insurance provider, they will likely pull your policy. A policy which covers use of a green light will be at a special premium.

There actually is no requirement to get out of the way for a green light, yield, allow them to pass etc. doing so may result in other violations of traffic laws.

Given that the proper use of a green light will not increase or improve response time, puts members insurance coverage at risk, and may lead civilian drivers to break traffic laws which put themselves and others at risk of collision and/or injury, the use of such lights is a poor decision by the department's (municipalities) which allow it.

Green light means "incident command" not a legal emergency vehicle, nothing like confusing drivers even more. Which is why you dont learn that in drivers ed

We never needed flashing/rotating lights and we arrived to station just fine.

I believe most people, especially the ones who live in a community with a volunteer fire department, know about green strobe lights. The drivers who don't know about the green strobe lights probably don't know about the stunt driving law or that .05 reading on a breathalizer can result in their car being impounded.

By not being trusted with warning beacons of a color universally understood as signifying actual authority (blue or red), volunteer firefighters are relegated to second-class status. Are they afraid that vollies with blue or red would abuse the privilege, use it as a fig leaf to violate road rules at will (the way certain sworn officers do?). Or are they worried about imposters?

Do they also have sound or is it just a flashing green light. Cause I doubt I'd notice it if the colour is green should of made them yellow or pink something more fluorescent

Let the use red, if drivers don't have to yield to green, they just as well could use yellow.

if u look carefully it does state in the drivers ed books about green lights maybe u should learn how to read in fact even the 1995 booklet has it page 51 chapter 2 bottom right corner it states the use of green flashing lights and if for some odd reason its not in the book well now u know to watch for green flashing lights because it is used in most parts of Canada so please yeld to flashing green lights
