People sleep on France, but aside from WW2 - which, without the French there would've been no western front - they have an impressive military record from the first crusade through Napoleon.

Historically, France was the first empire to establish order after the fall of the Western Roman empire. Also, a lot of the battles that the Franks have won were most likely fought during the crusades since most of the Christian crusading forces were made up of Franks.
