What Japanese Think of Weeaboos (Interview Re-upload)

I finally asked the question that everybody was curious about: what do Japanese people think of weeaboos?

Like I said in the video, I'm re-uploading the video because one of the interviewees said she wasn't happy with the kind of attention she got from the video. (She didn't actually ask me to re-edit the video, but I decided to do so because it's not my interest to keep the video if she was unhappy about it.) She said she couldn't stand that many people criticised her appearance.

Despite the number of hateful comments on the internet, I still believe most people on this planet are nice. (And there are a lot of nice people who don't comment.) Remember, there are real people with real emotions behind the screen and we might read your comment. So let's not say something you wouldn't say to someone's face.

I lived in Japan for 5 years.. And well I have had people back in the US tell me how Japan is so free, an open, and its just like the anime. When I try to explain the real Japan as a stressful working environment where many people are unhappy and struggle, these people back west can't accept it.

Japan is not like Manga or anime.

Yuta you should contact that girl and show her or tell her about all the supportive comments on this video.
I feel so bad for her if she loses her self confidence because of a few idiots on the internet.

Learning Japanese culture from anime is like learning American culture from Family Guy and Simpsons

Who was the girl?! I don't even remember anyone who was removed from the video. Damn shame. She didn't deserve that sort of treatment.

_It's odd that there isn't other names given to other country's epically America. There is just "Weeaboo" for obsession of Japanese, it seems._ *My Sister (who isn't an American) is so obsessed with America. She tries acting like an American, talking with an American accent, claiming to have been to America, only interested in American animations and TV shows, spells words using the American vocabulary etc. and refuses to admit her real nationality* I wonder what that would be called? I've heard of an "Ameriboo" but I don't know.

I think the term weaboo wasn't quite explained properly here. it is indeed okay to be deeply interested in a culture but weaboos are obsessed, ignorant and disrespectful. They tend to base all their knowledge from anime and manga and will commonly act Japanese when they are not. Your explanation wasn't completely off but there's definitely more too it.

The description of the word weaboo wasn't very accurate. It just made it sound like a person who really admires Japan, and not everyone who really admires Japan is a weaboo.

I am Japanese and it's ok to have weaboos with me, but sometimes it's getting a little too extreme where to the point they ignore their own culture just to learn all about our culture and everything
But I respect them since they are interested in our culture! I respect koreaboos too and I am actually a Japanese-Korean-Chinese

Weeaboo came about back in the mid 2000's I believe, mawds on 4channel were getting salty because normies were calling anime/manga fans wapanese, so they filtered out "wapanese" with "weeaboo", therefore 'weeaboo' is a synonym for 'wapanese'. I'm not sure what exactly caused the term to be used by normies, but for years on end it was mostly a somewhat niche-esque term. I think it was sometime in early to mid 2014 when normies started using the term.

I'm not sure about the original use of the term either, but I assume it meant something different. Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents, considering I'm an oldfag.
