President Vladimir Putin told Russians on May 9 that the world was at a key turning point and they were engaged in a patriotic struggle for the future of their country, as the country marked the anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two.
In a 10-minute speech on Red Square, Putin repeated familiar messages he has delivered many times in the nearly 15 months of what Russia calls its "special military operation" in Ukraine.
"Today, civilization is once again at a crucial turning point, a real war has once again been unleashed against our homeland. But we have fought back against international terrorism," he said.

Putin is truly hurting fellows. The 3 days Ukrainian adventure has turned into a 14 months nightmare for Russia. Putin, having strategize and restrategized, has come to a dead end, compounded by dwindling ammunition, finances etc. Sadly, for the sake of Russian pride, Putin will keep on doing the same thing but each time expects different results. It'd have been a sweeter pill to swallow for Putin if such a headache came from a comparable nation. It's a bitter pill because such headache came from small Ukraine.
