The German Commission for UNESCO invites all interested stakeholders to this panel discussion. We would like to engage with them to discuss the scope of the UNESCO Recommendation as well as the dynamics it has generated. How can individual Open Science stakeholders capitalize best from the UNESCO Recommendation? How can we ensure such that the new dynamics leads to fruitful results for science, society and policy-making? What could be a collective vision for Open Science based on this Recommendation - for Europe, for other parts of the world, for individual countries such as Germany? The panel discussion will have a particular focus on the situation on world regions beyond Europe, in particular the so-called Global South. Insights are planned on what Europe can learn from other world regions in Open Science.

Keynotes will be provided by three experts with exclusive insights into the UNESCO process, Vera Lacoeuilhe, Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng and Dr Ghaith Fariz.

* “Which new potentials does the UNESCO Recommendation open up, especially for countries of the Global South?" (Vera Lacoeuilhe)
* “Implications and initiatives: How the UNESCO Open Science Recommendation is being put into practice” (Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng / Dr Ghaith Fariz)

Afterwards, they will discuss with representatives from Europe and the Global South; questions from the floor are very welcome.

Panelists:
* Michael Arentoft (European Commission)
* Dr Ghaith Fariz (UNESCO HQ)
* Vera Lacoeuilhe (Permanent Delegation of Saint Lucia to UNESCO)
* Dr Peggy Oti-Boateng (UNESCO HQ)
* Laura I. Rovelli (Latin American Forum for Research Assessment)
