I got really lucky. My job gave us a $25 gift certificate to a local grocery chain. They had their Thanksgiving Day sale and if you bought a ham, you got a turkey (up to 18 pounds) for free. So, of course, that’s what I used it for. I ended up getting an 8 pound ham which I canned into 10 beautiful pints of ham chunks last night. And bonus, an 18 pound turkey which is going into the roaster to can as you previously showed us. I’ll be interested to see how many pints I get. I’m cooking for basically one and I’m working thanksgiving so this should put a lot of protein on the pantry shelf for food security. Total out of pocket cost for 26 pounds of protein? $7. That’s a win thanks to my employer. I’ll take the win. 😉

Who says you can't have a good meal for a family with $20 that was a nice spread on a budget. Nice ideas. :)

With a chocolate cake, you can use coco powder instead of flour to dust your cake pan. It helps not to see white powder after baking😊

I’m so grateful I happened across your channel! I’ve recently became disabled and can’t work so we are a family of 5 (almost same age as your tribe, except my oldest is a girl!) living off of my husbands $37, 000 p/yr salary as a cop. We’ve been drowning under the cost of food. So seeing ways I can make a doable budget stretch is a huge stress reliever!!
Thank you for everything you do to show us poor folk how to do it!!

That would also be a great meal to keep in mind for Easter

I just ran across your account and I'm stunned. Literally. I'm embarrassed to say we spend (3 people) over $2k on FOOD a month and I NEVER can accomplish cooking anything like what you just did. I'm literally going back through and picking a dinner for each night from your videos. I am fascinated. Only because I'm autoimmune; I may have to see if I can stay on budget. Fresh fruits & vegts w/ pasture meats are more $$$ but I could see how I can work it. Being mindful must be half the battle! I would haver never known I could make soup like that. The tomato soup in a different video.

It makes me so sad that people need videos like this because of the insane inflation but also SO thankful that there are people like you to show us how to do more with less. You're the best, and I hope you and the family have a wonderful Thanksgiving! ❤

I think you did amazing for $20. No turkey, no problem. It's about making the most of the options available and celebrating the time with those you love.

I just heard you say: “heck fire” as u made the potatoe salad. Those words PROVE that you are indeed a real country gal ( I haven’t heard that expression in a very long time). Barbara

You can also throw the "butt" tip of that ham into those green beans for extra seasoning!
I've been boiling my eggs in my potatoes when making potato salad for years--such a time saver!
Love your chanel!

Sitting here watching every step with full attention. Then you said, “My ancestors are telling me to add more honey, so I’m doing it” I nearly fell out my chair. 😂🤣😂🤣 Had to wind it back cause I missed most of the tater salad making, 🤣😂🤣😂 Just love you, girl! ❤️

Brooke, I liked this video! I was reading some nasty comments or opinionated comments….my parents always taught me that if I didn’t have anything nice to say, to not say anything at all. My family doesn’t care for turkey so this video is right up my alley! We aren’t stuffing eaters either! So thanks for this video!

I try to keep 8 oz cans of generic soda on hand. You can add that to a cake mix when you don’t have eggs or oil and it makes the cake or cupcakes soooo moist! I learned this trick in weight watchers years ago using diet soda. So many different variations!!
