It sounds like he's about to cry here. I mean in a good way. It helps convey emotion. In the original, he was doing that country-ish twangy attempted-soothing stuff which didn't suit him. During the chorus here, he's screaming like there's no tomorrow. Makes the song much better and much more meaningful imo
