LYRICS:
Were you on the other line or driving in your car?
Were you hiding upstairs or playing your guitar?
Was there nothing ever wrong, ‘cause you were always right?
Tell me, were you blindsided or were you just blind?

And now you’re saying that you’re lost
And that’s lost on me
Years of sitting across from me in therapy
I know the truth is hard to hear, but it wasn’t hard to find
Baby, were you blindsided or were you just blind?

I’d go write a song, and you’d go for a walk
We had to get drunk to ever really talk
I told you what I needed, didn’t have to read my mind
So, were you blindsided or were you just blind?

And now you’re saying that you’re lost, and that’s lost on me
You didn’t ever wanna leave the house, I didn’t want a family
I know the truth is hard to hear, but it wasn’t hard to find
Baby, were you blindsided or were you just blind?

Like that one time in 2019, before that big show, we had a big fight
I slept on the couch and then the next night you put on your suit
I put on a smile and sang about how it’s okay to cry, dying inside

And now you’re saying that you’re lost, and that’s lost on me
Tell me, when did I start looking like the enemy?
I know the truth is hard to hear, you’ve got yours and I’ve got mine
Baby, were you blindsided or were you just blind?
Were you just blind?

‘Is there nothing ever wrong, cause you were always right?’ that line hits deep.

This whole EP is just incredible and heartbreaking.

This is the best song on the EP IMO. I think this is where most relationships fail - one person feels alone and the only one trying while the other person doesn’t pay attention to you and the reoccurring problems. When your partner never listens to your needs or puts you first, why would someone continue to try to make the marriage work when it’s apparent the other person doesn’t care. I think a lot of women reach the point where it’s no longer fixable or savable, meanwhile the man acts confused like he didn’t know anything was wrong.

After seeing the video for Chapter 6, then the whole film, and now this chapter, I can confidently say that while each of the songs stands on its own, they have to be heard in sequence to be truly appreciated.

Wow. Hard to believe she’s so young; these problems are so old ; and she captures them beautifully, poignantly and tragically.

After hearing the whole album over and over I always come back to this song and play it on repeat. It feels like a testament to the men who just don’t care enough to pay attention to the problems in a relationship. They wonder what goes wrong & overlook all the issues in the relationship. Short but sweet way of saying you were blind not surprised by the outcome of a toxic relationship when it ultimately ends because we were unhappy

She did a country version of Lemonade but I’m here for it

all the chapters are amazing but this one in particular is so good. Lots of times in a relationship we see the signs but we choose to ignore them, pretending we don't see them.

The part where you’re crying and talking to him literally does something to my soul and makes me tear up every time, beyond relatable 😔

When you tell a man till you’re blue in the face what you need in your relationship and he only tries to fulfill that when you’re walking out the door. Just keep walking or you’ll wake up one day
10 yrs later and things are still the same and look at all the time wasted.

This is hands down my favorite track. The line “We had to get drunk to ever Really talk” 🤯

I relate to this song so much in my last relationship. He acted like it was such a surprise when I finally ended it even though I was visibly miserable and kept telling him I was going to walk away!

This rhythm and beat remind me of late 90s r&b and I’m here for it

They act like they’re so blindsided and unaware. But they’ve been ignoring the work for so long. Just focused on self.

I can't stop listening to this song. Seriously one of the best songs in a long time! Think most people can relate to the lyrics and the video is perfect! And she has such a beautiful voice!

This is definitely my favorite song off the ep which sounds like something horrible to say. The line that gets me is ‘When did I start looking like the enemy’ because god I feel like we’ve all been in that relationship.

I honestly feel like her ex-husband is a narcissist and she just became tired of it, realizing he’s not going to change. It’s all about him and what he wants. And she couldn’t live standing in the back anymore. Crazy thing, when you live with a narcissist, you have to become a narcissist to survive and get your needs met. When really, you were just trying to fight for your wants and needs.

The reference to your 2019 CMA performance of ‘homecoming queen’ that Garth Brooks later that night commemorated and being ‘performer of the year’ level. It takes a whole new perspective and rawness to that performance - so charged and beautiful. ❤
