I used to be really into all the woowoo spiritual stuff, feeling so enlightened in my belief that we are all one, while at the same time being oblivious to the cruelty of the food I ate and the clothes I wore. Now I find it so hard to stomach all of the sort of people I admired that seemed so spiritually enlightened but never give a second thought to eating bacon or wearing leather utility belts. It's just a huge blind spot even for people that generally think of themselves as kind and in tune with the natural world

The spiritual by-passing that's happening on a massive scale is really bumming me out. When people claim that the animals chose this life on a higher realm and that this somehow justifies treating them as they are treated (except these very people massively romanticize the industry). Or when they think it's a deeply spiritual connection when they offered gratitude to the murder victim on their plates - makes it all okay. Absolutely duuumb
