The redesigned 2022 Lexus NX is a lineup of luxury SUVs consisting of the NX 250, NX 350 and 350h, and the NX 450+. This pack of SUVs have been around for almost a decade but have not been able to keep up with its rivals such as the Mercedes GLC, Volvo XC60 and BMW X3. In this video, Mark Takahashi talks about what improvements Lexus has made to the redesigned NX and if it now has the goods to compete with the heavy hitters in the luxury SUV market. Mark discusses what to expect from the new NX and sees how it handles out on the road. Does the redesigned 2022 NX SUV now have the goods to take on its luxury SUV rivals? Mark is here to answer this question, plus a whole lot more. This is the Edmunds First Drive of the 2022 Lexus NX.

Great review. Appreciate the details and comparisons to rivals as well. Solid Lexus product, should last a lifetime

In our testing, we beat the Lexus-estimated acceleration to 60 mph by a full half-second, hitting 60 in 5.5 seconds versus the quoted 6.0-second time. That's quicker than the other 2022 NX models we've tested, but a 2021 XC60 Recharge reaches 60 in a MotorTrend-tested 5.0 seconds. We haven't yet tested a Q5 plug-in, but Audi estimates its model to be just as quick as the Volvo. In case you wonder, the lighter-weight RAV4 Prime matches the NX450h+'s 5.5-second time to 60.

This means the NX plug-in hybrid is both the quickest NX money can buy and the slowest SUV in its tiny segment.

The blue F sport is superb. I love the black rims. I hate the silver tyre rims on the other models.

Nothing here tells me it’s worth 15k more than the RAV4 Prime XSE fully loaded. Not even close…It’s slower, gets less range, and will cost more to service…The RAV4 Prime is the better choice by far. Fully loaded for less than 50k. This starts at 56k and only has a 3.3kw charger. Need to go over 60k to get the 6.6kw charger that is also available on the RAV4 Prime! No way…The only thing you’re missing out on is leather seats. Get aftermarket ones for a thousand or two if you really need them…I do love the interior color options with the red/black combo. Still only get 60/40 split in the back instead of 40/20/40. Get the RAV4 Prime and take the 15k difference and go on a few vacations!

I thought UX was entry level SUV, good review. Wonder how this compares with Tesla Y.

Like the silver or machines color wheels. The new black wheels make the suv look like there are black holes. Kind of missing something

Just don't expect the agility of a Genesis GV70 or Alfa Romeo Stelvio. On our figure-eight course—a MotorTrend test that evaluates acceleration, braking, handling, and the transitions in between—the NX450h+'s performance doesn't reflect the way it feels in the real world. The plug-in finished the test in 28.4 seconds at 0.57 g (average), well behind the quicker Volvo's 26.3 seconds at 0.69 g but also behind the RAV4 Prime (27.0 seconds at 0.65 g) and the NX350h. That NX hybrid variant is nearly 400 pounds lighter than the NX450h+ and finishes the figure-eight course quicker, at 28.0 seconds at 0.59 g.

I pre-ordered the NX 350 Turbo. Was that a right decision or should I go with the 350h Hybrid?

Charge time isn't particularly relevant for PHEV vehicles. Charge overnight for your daily rounds - if you're going further rely on the gas with small elec gains on the braking. Anyone charging these outside of the home should really just be buying a full EV.

Thank you for the clean look, and I'm not talking about the car. I can enjoy your videos once again 🙌

See I knew this would happen… I predicted the nx would disappoint everyone and I was right

That said however the nx350h is something I’d recommend, not the other drivetrains though. Although recommending the 350h isn’t really saying much

Raiti: *Damn, hope I don't go after Edmunds...*🤔
Lexus: "You're going second"
Raiti: 😑

Why the infotainment screen looks like a wooden pizza peel? They should follow the dual screen system Mercedes Benz used or the curved screen in Cadillac

I don't understand the purpose of a plug in hybrid, why not just hybrid or full electric.

The screen seems very poorly integrated into the dash. Not a fan of that stuck-on look.
