He’s gonna be amazing, everyone had him as the 1B to bedard a year before the draft and he looks like exactly that. It’s ridiculously impressive for him to be producing at this clip in the KHL at 18

I’m a flyers fan and can I say that I’m insanely hyped for Michkov. He looks like an actual super star! Legitimately talented! We don’t get those! What do I do with my hands?!

I couldn't believe how far this kid fell in the draft.. Comment sections were like "He won't be in the NHL for another 3 seasons that's why"

But realistically, Most first round picks won't touch the NHL for a couple seasons anyway... Teams should have taken this kid because the wait is going to be well worth it.

Good for him shows a lot of character imo to be treated that way by the big club and then to go down to a way worse club in the KHL and light it up with worse teammates shows good resilience if I was a Flyers fan I'd be excited even if he is still 3 years away in all likelihood

I have always been a fan of Russian players and I think they are some of the most talented players outside of Canada, I mean they've got players like Ovechkin, Bure, Panarin, Shesterkin, Sorokin, and many others with so much talent, and next on that list will no doubt be Matvei Michkov in his NHL career. The flyers have time to construct a team whilst he plays out his khl contract so I think they'll be legit contenders in 3-4 years

They definitely didn't give him even a chance in SKA. Wonder if it has something to do with getting drafted in the NHL and his desires to play there.

Personally I liked him more than Bedard. He's been playing with men for the last few years oppose to Bedard playing in the WHL. I don't necessarily feel that way now with Bedard performing the way he is. I still believe there is a slight chance Matvei outperforms Bedard in the years they're both in the NHL

There are a lot of scouts that say that he's just as good or better than Bedard. And judging by his play so I can't say that I disagree. We'll see when he gets to the NHL next season. "But he's in Russia for the next 4 years". Actually, there was an accidental tweet about how he said he can't wait until he joins The Flyers in 2024. It was quickly taken down though. The insider didn't realize that he was actually putting Michkov in danger by repeating that.

Also, the only reason he went 7th, was because he told the other teams in the interviews that he wanted to be drafted by The Flyers and that he wasn't willing to break his KHL contract. However, he asked Philly to draft him and is almost definitely going to break his KHL contract. This whole "I have to finish my KHL contract" thing is just lip service to Russia. People forget that Russians are not free people. If they think he's going to jump ship, they will just ban him from travel outside of the country.

Back in the day, Russian players were snuck out of the country to come to the NHL.

We all know the Habs are in a rebuild stage with a very young core of players. Along with Joshua Roy, Sean Farrell, David Reinbacher and Lane Hutson who will join the team eventually and who are all doing great right now, when do you think the Habs can be a real contender? Who could be the number 1 goaltender in the net then in your opinion?

Flyers fan here checking in to say I'm still absolutely fuckin pumped we picked him with the only thing slowing my roll being the time it'll take for him to get here. never a doubt in my mind he was the right pick and feeling validated rn. big prediction for ya bud, Michkov will break every Flyers goal scoring record by the end of his career

Detroit really could have used this guy.
Instead splurged on a bunch of midrange UFA signings in the summer of 2022 and got a little better, just out of range to draft Matvei. I believe if Matvei was available SY would have surely drafted him 100%
That summer of 2022 was really a tell tale sign of the short sightedness of long term stability for the franchise. SY follows it up with summer of 2023 signings with some questionable W/L results already occurring.
Our rebuild may go on for another decade at this pace.
