I've been reading: Women and the Conquest of California, 1542-1840: Codes of Silence by Virginia Marie Bouvier.
Eye-opening and heart-breaking about history that has almost been erased.

Where can i get involved?. Im a San jose Native and I'd love to learn more about the Ohlone people. I always question the mineral spring baths in Alum Rock. I get a spiritual vibe everytime i go up there and its almost like something is telling me to learn more about the Ohlone life. Thanks

My son sent this link to me. My ears (and his too) perked when Charlene mentioned Manuel Butron, the Catalonion soldier who was the first to marry an Ohlone woman. It was also the first marriage performed at the mission in Monterey. I have the geneology for both sides of my parents. It was my Spanish grandmother who got got wind of a "Judgement Fund Roll" being formed and got on the ball to get my brothers and I enrolled back about 60 years ago. My mother typed up additional notes regarding Manuel and some of his accomplishments. Apparently he spoke 2 or 3 dialects of Ohlone and was loved dearly by not only Serra, but by the Ohlones themselves.
