In every generation, some religious believers imagine their time to be the end time. Why is this so? What makes the end time so compelling, even intoxicating? What characterizes the end time? How about in our generation? What, in a religious nutshell, is the end time? And what can we learn about religion, and religious organizations, from end times?

Nancey Murphy is an American philosopher and theologian who is Professor of Christian Philosophy at Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena, CA.

Closer to Truth, hosted by Robert Lawrence Kuhn and directed by Peter Getzels, presents the world’s greatest thinkers exploring humanity’s deepest questions. Discover fundamental issues of existence. This interview didn't cover much ground. Not that I mind as a devotee of this channel but, with the video title, I was anticipating something a little more prophetic!

I've always just assumed that the end of the world analogy is all about the end of each individual's life. Which is the end of the world for them and every one of us goes through it.

*It's been the “End Times” since the inception of the World and one day there certainly will be an End to it all. 🌍 Religious doctrine focusing on Eschatology and various fanatical figures reinforced nihilism philosophy up to now. Anyhow, the End of Days will probably occur anytime from 💯–1, 000 years from now for Mankind (more or less). Thus, we should enjoy and embrace life while it lasts. Life is truly a “gift”, so to speak.*

She is beaming with self confidence, but why?
As per 1 Tim.2-12 I can safely disregard her message.

Without chapter and verse, Jesus said only the Father knows the time of the end, and to be watchful and ready for when the end comes; in which case person can be prepared for when the end comes and to move on from the end times? Through practice of substantive choice a person can be ready to meet the end times, and with God sovereignty can move on from the end times?

There is a lot that can happen in 20 - 50 - 100 years.

Just wonder as Nancy says even Jesus(peace be upon him) didn't know the End Time, how on earth as claimed he is God or Son of God and didn't know?

His aversion to religion, in the sense usually attached to the term, was of the same kind with that of Lucretius: he regarded it with the feelings due not to a mere mental delusion, but to a great moral evil. He looked upon it as the greatest enemy of morality: first, by setting up factitious excellencies - belief in creeds, devotional feelings, and ceremonies, not connected with the good of human kind - and causing these to be accepted as substitutes for genuine virtue: but above all, by radically vitiating the standard of morals; making it consist in doing the will of a being, on whom it lavishes indeed all the phrases of adulation, but whom in sober truth it depicts as eminently hateful

I did not appreciate her being "silly" about such a serious matter based on her own words: "I'm just being silly..." Brother James 🙏

We have the year 2022, and many faithful believers have died, we have the year 2092, and all believers and their strong arguments from 2022 have vanished without experiencing the return of the messiah, and so on, maybe until the future conscious minds evolve to higher abilities, and recognition, to distinguish between existence and story, reality and imagination, emotion and truth.

“As he was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples approached him privately and said, “Tell us, when will this happen, and what sign will there be of your coming, and of the end of the age?” Jesus said to them in reply, “See that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Messiah, ’ and they will deceive many. You will hear of wars and reports of wars; see that you are not alarmed, for these things must happen, but it will not yet be the end. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be famines and earthquakes from place to place. All these are the beginning of the labor pains. Then they will hand you over to persecution, and they will kill you. You will be hated by all nations because of my name. And then many will be led into sin; they will betray and hate one another. Many false prophets will arise and deceive many; and because of the increase of evildoing, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached throughout the world as a witness to all nations, and then the end will come.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24:3-14‬ ‭‬‬

So it seems to me that Jesus took the teaching of the Old Testament and Spiritualized it such that, what was the physical Temple in the world is now a Temple inside you and I, so I would have to wonder where he was going with this one:

Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand), —Matthew 24:15

My belief is that this is saying the Temple of God inside you and me is going to be raided and left desolate. It's supposed to happen very late in the Biblical timeline.

Very interesting.

There is literally no reference/ground/substance to stand on here in this interview. If you’re looking for information about this topic, one will need to look into many religious theologies on the subject.
