To apply for an NDIS replacement support, follow these steps:
Application Process
Gather the required information:
Details about the replacement support, including what it is and its cost
Which NDIS support(s) in your plan you want to replace
How the replacement support will work the same or better than the current support
Submit your application using one of these methods:
Complete and submit the "Application for a Replacement Support Form"
Provide the same information via email or phone call to the NDIS
Contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 for assistance
Wait for the NDIA to review your application.
They will contact you with their decision.
If your application is approved:
The NDIA will call to inform you of the approval
You'll receive a confirmation letter by post or email
You can purchase the replacement support using your plan funding1
If your application is not approved:
The NDIA will call to inform you of the decision and provide reasons
You'll receive a written confirmation by post or email
You cannot use your plan funding to buy the replacement support
You cannot request a review of this decision
Important Considerations:
Approval for replacement supports only lasts for your current plan. You'll need to reapply in your next plan
You don't need to provide additional assessments or reports for your application
If not approved, you can't apply for the same replacement support for 12 months, unless your circumstances change and you have a Plan Reassessment
The NDIA may need to change how your plan is managed to accommodate the approved replacement support
Eligibility Criteria
A replacement support must:
Replace an existing NDIS support in your plan
Cost the same or less than the current support
Work the same or better for you than the support it's replacing15
Remember that even if you provide all the required information, the NDIA is not obligated to approve the replacement support1. Be sure to clearly demonstrate how the replacement support meets the necessary criteria and benefits you in your application.
