She has said the reason she got to sing was because Rock found out she sung and spoke to producers telling them to let her perform. Two legends

Lilian does something a lot of singers don't do. She goes up on "flag was still there." While that's not how it was technically written, it's effective as hell.

20 years later and this still gives me chills. For her to go out there two days after what happened on 9/11 when it was still fresh in everyones minds and sing it that well. Amazing.

Who’s here 21 years later?? Still the best rendition of the anthem I’ve ever heard especially given the circumstances

I'm so glad that Lillian put such emphasis on the "our flag was still there" line after everything that happened just two days prior. We needed to remember that despite what happened America was still standing.

Damn, the way she held her tears until the end was amazing... This gave me goosebumps, not to mention Vince's speech short afterwads which was also epic.

I am Russian, but this singing almost made me cry. This was a tragedy and people of Russia mourn with you. God bless America and Russia. We are not your enemies, no matter what politicians try to do🙏🇺🇸🇷🇺

I have goosebumps and I'm not even American . Why? Because we are all humans and those died shouldn't be forgotten. God bless you. Love to those affected, prayers from India 🇮🇳

OK, here's the deal...I'm Australian. This moment happened nearly 17 years ago, and this the first time I've actually watched Lilian sing the national anthem for 9/11.

I'm in tears, and I'm covered in goosebumps. That was beautiful.
