A robotic raspberry teaches machines how to pick fruit

Fruit-picking robots need a gentle touch. While a huge number of crops are harvested by machines, soft fruit like raspberries are usually collected by hand. To help robots gain the skills needed to pluck raspberries from the stem without crushing them, researchers have developed a robotic raspberry. It's a fake fruit containing a sensor which can measure and feed back on the pressures involved when both humans and robots grasp it. The idea is to allow researchers to work on developing their fruit-picking devices in the lab all year round.

Ah! Robotic Raspberry, a great band from the 80s with their classic album: Lavatory Therapy Horizon (featuring Robert Robinson). I particularly like: John the Revelator, Wrote the Book of the Seven Seals but One of them turned out to be a Sea Lion.

BTW, "labour shortages" is British English for "self-inflicted pain and a subsequent inability to fix it due to fear of one's own racist base." It's a marvellously efficient language, really.

Appreciating their great effort though, a slight change of concept/tactics may be helpful in a practical sense. Loose grip + vibration/shaking motion. Good luck!

Need more creative thinking.

Robots picking artificial fruit. This is the peak of our insanity.
