If you want to know how to stop robocalls, this 3-step strategy will help right away. Consumer advocate Clark Howard gets tons of robocalls to his phone; here's what he does to stop them.

Step 1: Screen your calls
Step 2: Use a free robocall blocking app like Hiya or YouMail
Step 3: Use your phone carrier's spam blocking software (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint all offer some blocking software)

My iPhone is always set on "Do Not Disturb." If the phone number for an incoming call is not on my phone's contacts list, my phone does not ring, and the call is routed automatically to voicemail. If I suspect the call was a robocall, I then go to the recent call list and block that phone number. As your video urges, screen your calls, and do not answer unless it is really someone you want to speak with. If a person really wants to talk to you, they will leave a voicemail.

I do not answer calls as you stated. If I am near the phone I hang up otherwise I let it go to voicemail. If no message is left, I block the number. . . the other day I accidentally answered a call and I waited until a human started to talk. I asked what is the patient's name you are looking for. I don't remember her reply, I just said, I am sorry you have reached Humane Hospital, is this where you were calling for. She actually replied, "I am sorry I will list this number as such." I still get calls, but I felt good about doing this. Since it was only just recently, I haven't had the opportunity to to keep doing it. So I don't know if it will work or not. I cannot believe the number of 'blocked' numbers I have on my phone. Good Luck.

Good stuff, Clark. Are you familiar with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act? From viewing your story, I found this. There's a TV reporter in TX with a video describing how he collected almost $6k in 10 days from robocallers by settling instead of suing, citing the TCPA. Video subject is: Consumer reporter Steve Noviello says turn illegal robocalls into cash

If I accidentally answer those calls, and if there’s a live person on the other end, I lie to them that they got the wrong number.

I set my phone to only ring if the number is in my contacts. If it's important they will leave a message.

Yes, thank you and.... on the phone, GO TO SETTINGS, then TO PHONE, then SILENCE UNKNOWN CALLERS.

I ignore the calls, but when they go to voicemail they are always "Fax Machines". I probably receive 5 a day. I continue to block the numbers but it is getting really frustrating. Thank you for your tips

I normally do not answer calls from numbers I do not recognize but my 87-year-old mother has been having health issues and my number is attached to most of her insurance and doctors accounts so I cannot afford to miss many of their calls right now. Guess I will just deal with it.

I just keep blocking the numbers. it helps soooo much more. And if it's a person just say "she/he passed away" LOLOL

Step 1 seems to be the only answer to stopping robocalls for a Non Cell Phone, think home landline phone! What then??

That's not really stopping robocalls so much as ignoring robocalls.
