I bought (hopefully) the same set of books at Costco for my 7-year-old child. I’m not sure how they were censored, but I’d rather talk to my kid about difficult topics rather than denying history or pretending these things don’t exist.

I was searching for suggestions about what is the best order to read in. She started with “The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me” even though she’s familiar with “Matilda, ” “James & the Giant Peach” and “The BFG” though movies, but I suggested she starts with the shorter stories first. Not sure if you read through this with a child’s ability to comprehend/vocabulary in mind…

I subscribed not only because I admire your request: “this is not begging, this is praying.” Keep asking for reasonable things out loud. Not sure what the rest of your channel is about but this is a great video!

i don't think there is any misogyny in any of his books. sadly we live in a world now where people are looking to be offended by something. just because the book features female villains means nothing, he has both male and female villains in his books and in reality women can be evil too.

I love this video. I think the Witches should be number one but still this is a great video on my favorite author. Roald Dahl is amazing!

On misogyny—toxic women DO exist. I do not see any evidence that Roald Dahl paints every female character as evil, even if all of the villains in “The Witches” are women. Some women DO oppress children and try to keep them permanent inferiors (as seen in “Matilda”). Not every book or story needs to be balanced.

Think of Hansel & Gretel: the gingerbread witch (who enticed the children with candy but really wanted to eat them) actually made the stepmother (who wanted to oust the children/force them to grow up so that she and their father would not starve) seem quite reasonable…
