Mars and Earth, they're not as close as we might think. If we had a colony on Mars right now, the time it would take to communicate with them would be mind-boggling. You see, when we send messages to each other here on Earth, they zip around at the speed of light, which is super fast. Light can travel around the Earth seven times in just one second, making messaging feel instant. But when it comes to Mars, things change. When Mars and Earth are at their closest, they're a whopping 55 million kilometers apart. So, a message traveling at the speed of light would take about three minutes to reach Mars, and another three minutes for a reply. Not too bad, right? But hold on, when Mars is on the other side of the Sun, that message would take a whopping 22 minutes! That means no Face Timing, no phone calls, and definitely no video games with our Martian friends. But hey, we can still send messages and share our cosmic adventures with them, right?
